G4L4XY season approaching.
RedAndCosmoteer
(ah fuck, I forgot that the Stellar Fortress was your flagship. My brain did an oof lol)
(I presume UoL sensors would be able to detect things like gravitons?)
aaand finally...
Red, you can yell at me if the shuttles are already done carrying Gravitons. I suck at reading.
Aboard the Abiding Terror...
[!Alert!]
Non-Union assets carrying [Gravitons] spotted.
Asset Status Update: [Low-Priority] -> [HIGH VALUE TARGETS]
A large, bright, scarlet warning pops up on the sensors in the war room, catching the eyes of the men sitting around the room.
"Gravitons?"
The crew manning the array stare at the screen in disbelief, immediately contacting the carrier crew and the nearest tactician aboard the command frigate.

Opening...
"Permission to deploy Wing 5?"
"Permission granted. Corvettes and frigates will provide cover. Leave no shuttle standing."
Unlike the previous launch, most of the fighters manage to make it through safely, as the carriers and other vessels escorting them soak some damage before letting the wing take off...
With their thrusters set to overcharge, the wing splits into squadrons, which eventually catch up to some shuttles. Flare systems on the fighters divert smaller guided projectiles while larger defenses such as flak batteries spread shards of metal all over the battlefield, "gutting" enemy strike craft and shooting down incoming missiles.
The Lance Missiles that succeeded in hitting the UoL attack fleet cause several corvettes to go up in flames, alongside one carrier that was weakened by the two remaining Polaris Cruisers...
Aboard the [placeholdernamebecauseiforgotwhatinamedthatpolaris],
the Republic troops have been outmatched by the UoL soldiers boarding the cruiser....
It appears that loyalty is a great source of motivation for the Union's soldiers.
A squadron of Demolition Troops and Tech Experts sneaks through the corridors with three Elite Riflemen covering them. They lower their visor brightness to blend in with the dark walls, now that the lights are out.
They make their way to the bridge's elevator, using a Tech Expert's face replicator to open the door after incapacitating the last few security guards with their stun rounds. Out of the ten faces shown to the scanner, only one belongs to a crew member with bridge access...
WELCOME BACK, MR. STANTON
The lead rifleman makes a zipping motion with his hand, gently whispering "Don't make a sound" to the rest of the squadron before creeping through the door and up the ramp...
The Abiding Terror
Drayan yawns as he exits the meditation room, accompanied by the guards who dragged him off earlier. There is a slight grin on his face, and his eyes are half-shut...

Decrypting...
"Admiral, we are about to take the bridge. The mission is almost over."
"Oh?"
The Admiral's pupils dilate, and his grin abruptly shifts into a smile...
"Delightful. Perfect... Y-Y-Y-"
His hands shake as he attempts to control his emotions. Officers start giving him weird looks.
"Admiral, I think you might need another na-"
"For the last time, I'm... Not... TIRED!"
He clenches his trembling fists, one eye twitching before he goes back to normal.
"Ah, don't worry about me. I'm just a tad excited."
Drayan goes back to watching the holomap and giving orders, paying attention to every little detail on the boarding report screen...
Meanwhile... (Skip if you don't want to read a textwall of interactions)
Outside the War Room, Darius leans against the wall, alongside the female guard who had warned him about the Admiral.
"What is it with the Admiral and his mood swings," he mutters under his breath.
To his surprise, the other guard had heard what he said. She continues to stare at Drayan while speaking...
"Darius, Drayan wasn't always like this. You see, he was an excellent leader back when the Abiding Terror was fresh out of the shipyard. They said he climbed the ranks faster than everyone else. He'd come back from every battle with flying colors."
She sighs, her head turning to face the new guard.
"But one day, he just... snapped... broke... you get the point. Let me tell you about Dechuvis..."
He nods.
"Before Drayan was Vice Admiral of this fleet, he was commanded to deal with a hostile force over the planet, Dechuvis, which is located at the borders of Crigonean territory. Our ally had reportedly seen a fleet belonging to an unknown faction attack two trade ships, which happened to be exporting luxury goods to someone. The task was simple; make the attackers surrender, using force if necessary. However, Drayan severely underestimated the enemy, rushing headfirst into battle..."
She pauses for a moment and stops leaning against the wall.
"And the Vice Admiral, a good friend of his, had to pay the price. Left out in the open while Drayan used brute force against the hostiles. Once its shields went down, the lance platforms sliced through his ship like butter. They managed to get him aboard a Crigonean rescue ship, but the damage had already been done. He was pronounced DOA. Impaled by flying shrapnel... And Drayan got to see his wounds..."
"Sure, Drayan managed to kill them all, but he's never been the same since then. Some say he forced himself to believe that loyalty was more important than life."
The guard shakes her head before lightly punching Darius on the shoulder.
"Hey, don't tell anyone that I told you this. Now... uhm... I might as well head back to the War Room...
She taps on the screen by the War Room doors, which open as soon as she hits the "go" button. The guard marches in, keeping her long, staff-shaped gun pointed at the roof, leaving Darius all by himself.
"Drayan was one of us," he thinks to himself.
He tries to rub his forehead for a moment before a Corridor Overseer approaches him.
"Scuse me sir? What ye doing out here? Git back to work, yeh break is ova!"
Darius is startled, springing up and nodding. He enters a passcode at the War Room's door, awkwardly marching in...
