I've got an idea for a weapon:
Torpedo Launcher: 5X2 launcher, with a prohibit zone of 4X2 counting form the tip of the Torpedoes. Has two torpedoes and each takes up 6 torpedo ammo. Torpedo ammo can be built and stored like cannon and missile ammo, and explodes if the factory/ammo storage is hit and destroyed.(I suggest same size of missile factory and storage.) Requires a lock-on(targeting a specific part) before firing, otherwise weapon will still launch but will not be armed and deals miniscule damage. If launched, travels slowly(acceleration of 1.5 or 2) towards a linear direction(unarmed) or towards a locked enemy. On unarmed hit on either shield, structure or operational parts, will not explode but instead deals 800 damage with 0 penetration and 2 impulse. On armed hit, deals 2400 shield damage, 7200 area operational damage with radius of 3 and 4000 area structural damage with radius of 2, with 0 penetration, area impulse of 6 with radius of 3. Torpedoes can be shot down with PDS. However, it has high health count (I guess somewhere between 5000 to 8000 hp is good enough), making shooting it down a hassle. How you would like to buff/nerf the weapon is up to you. I thought out the mechanics according to how missiles and reactor destruction damage works.

I'm done with most of the sprite work for the next weapon, the Ternary Assault Cannon, but I'm having trouble getting it to not crash the game.

Differing damage and splash for locked and unlocked states is currently impossible.
That said, I find it quite difficult to create missile sprites of sufficient quality - the Ion Missile Platform may remain as my only missile-based weapon for a long time.

Meranera The damage differ mechanism is just something I thought interesting. If you'd like to add my weapon without this mechanism it is totally fine, since the weapon can still function like a heavy missile(or maybe you could redesign it so its BECOMES one.) Dammit, if it were not for my short lived summer vacation, I could have had time to create the coding for damage differ... Maybe, just maybe, I'll do it when its Christmas(yes, where I live there is extremely little holidays), I'll try to remember my torpedo project.

However due to how messed up it is, I don't really feel like coding anymore.

Mod has been updated; I've added the Mass Driver, reskinned the Hardlight, and buffed the Splitfire Repeater.
Larger versions of the Mass Driver (suggested by Xavius) are planned for the future.

One thing to mention, though, is that there's a small issue with the Reflak, where it doesn't fire if the ship has targeted another ship except at that ship.

Mod has been updated; I've added the Ternary Assault Cannon (coded by Lafiel), and buffed the Mass Driver.
...It seems like I can't balance all too well, maybe I'll get someone to do that for me too.. lol

My crew no matter what will not crew the weapon after they load the energy no crew enters the room other than to move through it

So... The TAC emplacement seems nice, but its range seems oddly low for how bulky and big it is. Damage is pretty good, everything other than the range seems good, in fact. Might want to up the price a bit (+ ~5% or so) and the range a little, but it plays well.

The Mass Driver is having a similar issue with range; everything else does really well, but it's got the same range as the Ion Beam Emitters for lower DPS. Perhaps up the range by about half again? That is to say, bring it to around 210 range instead of 140 max range?

Just suggestions after pitting a series of ships against one another, each fitted for the weapons in question. Also liking the newer Splitfire, it works a lot better and I actually use it again. Works great in conjunction with the robotech mod, as their lasers stink against armor, but have absurd penetration

Try removing the weapon and placing it again - if that doesn't help, replace the ship.
I've no clue what causes it, to be honest.

Can't Wait to try out the Ternary Assault cannon.
Also Balance wise the Mass driver still doesn't feel powerful enough for its size and cost its reliance on shield stripping secondary weapons drastically reduces what weapons you need to pair with it if you want to stand a chance against shields

I'd say the Mass driver should get maybe +70 or +80, enough to let it be used as the sniping weapon it was intended for; it fires slowly and does a lot of damage, but at present is out-ranged by every missile except the short-range missiles from the Robotech mod. The Ternary I could see being more useful at about 180 range; it is a capital-ship sized weapon, after all, and I've always felt that the big ship combat in this game ends up either being an Ion Beam match or is practically a barroom brawl.

I would recommend upping the IMP's range and speed instead; the base health of missiles is identical to PD damage in vanilla, and possibly give its splash damage the shutdown effect of electro-bolts. That last part is a maybe and would need some play-testing to see if it's a good idea or not, but the IMPs just feel like they don't do much after the initial shield shutdown until the shields come back up again (if they ever do)
