"Ah yes, I meant to tell you about that old man, I bent a few ears after what you told me and apparently he's gone, left bound for Zagt in a hurry after some guardsmen were inquiring after him. He was found trying to rob the mortuary again they say, and from what it sounds like those odd two who were with us on the journey were in on it somehow, they were seen in the vicinity and now two bodies have disappeared. I'd quiz them on it if I were you."
He suddenly notices the Mer "King" standing on the stairs behind the ambassador, and jumps.
"Oh, ah, dear lady, allow me to assist you."
He holds a hand down attempting to lend aid, but is met by the tips of about seven tridents and withdraws his hand with haste, a hunted look in his eyes.
"Ah, er, just trying to be helpful, sorry."
She nods graciously.
"Do not apologize Lord Pierson, however it is deemed a great insult for a member of another species to help one of ours onto land, an old prejudice stemming from a traditional story where a member of a land race lured a mer person onto land and cut off their fins, both our species have a lot of old grudges to overcome."
Jasper's eyes had clouded over, but when she stops speaking he jumps again slightly, nodding.
"Ah, yes, good show."
The Mer people walk past them, and the "King" pauses by the Ambassador.
"Remember what I advised you, and keep your wits, I would find some sadness if you perished."
She then glides onward, her people following reverently, some of them nod at him as they pass.
Once they had passed, Jasper looks at him guiltily.
"You know, whenever I have talked to the, er, King, I can never concentrate on what she is saying, something about those eyes of hers, I don't hear a word then feel awful for it."

He takes but two steps down the staircase, when he feels an impact to the side of his head, not physical, but a solid wall of sound, he can also faintly hear a howling sound over the din, the bell is ringing, and She'la has collapsed, her hands flattening her ears, the bell, swinging wildly hits Blak in the stomach, sending him crashing into the wall, and the Bird creature sets off in a flurry of feathers and guano out of one of the windows...

The gloom of evening is beginning to creep upon the town, and the two make it to John's home without a hitch, Susan opening the door to them, raising an eyebrow to the odd "packages", when they enter the sitting room they see John is in his chair, though he jumps up when they enter.
"Ah, success I see! I tell you, I can't wait till I can read a bloody paper by myself again."
