The Aircobra was one if not the most kill collecting aircraft in WWII. Also had one of the most successful aces 47 of his 59 air victories where in a cobra.

Lafiel airacobra was bad at high altitudes. And you didn’t specify variant. Allowing enemies to climb over it and have an energy advantage. It’s a great aircraft but if you manipulate it’s weaknes it’s bad

Depends on what you mean by "best".
Since you could say that the FW-190 was best due to how multirole it was, while also saying the Sea Fury was the best because it even today is used as a racing aicraft (and even has a confirmed jet kill, however it never served during WW2 but was developed during it).

But yeah, if i was to say overall best id probably pick FW-190 for its versatility, or early Spitfire due to its impact on the battle of britain despite having numerous flaws.

Jenwuf early Spitfire was a close call to 109 and you could say the zero was better. If I would do a list of all the best aircraft of ww2 the Fw 190 a-8 would be second place. Shortly after the fw 190 the Spitfire mk IX came which had better manouverability, climb rate, energy retention. Stopping almost any aircraft from getting more energy and more maneuverable. The Spitfire can basically just adapt and always win because it’ll be better in all types of fights and dictate it.

Who cares about a particular variant. Obviously it's always the last that's the best no point pointing it out. We discuss aircraft types anyway.
But if you purely insist on technology and performance then drop the romantic attachments. Military stuff is all about cold blooded pure efficiency in killing people. That said I'll go with the F4U Corsair if it's performance and technology. Although, I admit .I would have liked the Do 335 if only it was more developed than just prototypes.

ComradeShiba oh. I named the IAR 81 and you didn’t react. But the IAR 80 was underarmed. I would say the IAR 81c with two 20mm cannons and four machine guns.
I would say if it got the Fw 190s engine (which could have happened as Germany where their allies) it may have been the best fighter of the war but sadly it didn’t. It had an excellent airframe. Do you know what the designer said was his secret to the airframe?

Lafiel the best fighter is the plane that’ll kill and is most effective against other planes att it’s time. Corsair was a good dive bomber but as a fighters it’s “Nice” Spitfire mk IX tho “Can win any battle”
