There were these British biplanes in ww2 called swordfish. They were dive bombers but could be used in combat. Since they were slow, the fast German planes would fly right past them. If the German planes ever hit the with their guns, the bullets would just fly straight threw the fabric the wings were made of doing almost no damage.
