Aisling I've seen worse.

Aisling Imma just give you a list.
    Good points:

    • Multiple controls rooms

    • Great cannon/flak - factory ratio

    • Usage of modules

    • Internal thrusters and thrust in all directions

    • Internal armor

    • Good shield coverage (maybe even slightly too much)

    • Paint (something I still can't bring myself to do)

    • No missile/cannon ammo storage

    Issues:

    • Clustered reacors/bad reactor placement

    • Unnecessary battery storage

    • Wasted reactor capacity on cannon modules and some internal ones (almost unavoidable)

    • Usage of crew bunks (occasionally required)

    • Too much crew

    • Usage of walkways

    • Too many doors

    • Slightly too much armor

    • Somewhat lacking missile defense on the sides

    Conclusion:
    The ship is 'okay'.
You've got half of the building rules figured, the other half is still lacking tho. I'd advise you to go read through some guides and try beating this afterwards:

(I just had a test fight and realised my Castle Archer has some sort of emergency mode when AI controlled: The AI usually keeps the ship close enough for the flak to fire at the target. Once the mayority of the flak is destroyed however, it switches to railgun only distance, controlling the ship similar to a kiter. Feel free to make adjustments, should your ship be too slow to catch it.)

Yea the ship is a work in progress, it used to only have energy weapons and I forgot to change the reactors around when I changed the weapons and once I'd looked in the forums about them. It started as a test craft as the first one I've made using compartments, It's a slow hulky mess which is vulnerable to more than a few types of designs and tries to be too many/have too many things at once.. I'll try check off some of those points, Thanks

Aisling Compartments should always be made using only 1 reactor and trying to push that reactor to its limit, generally, you can fit 2-3 Large Cannons on one, 4-6 Small cannons, always fits 2 shields, also, try to use as few corridors as possible, and make factories have direct access to whatver uses them, for example, reactors have direct access to shields, ammo factories have direct access to cannons.
In summary, try to make something really compact, for starters.

Saving space is defiantly one of the things I focused on the least, I was sort of experimenting on whether Moving Walkways would be faster than sticking the explosive stuff next to shields and it does seem to be fast ish but I'm not sure if it is faster (might be if I did it more efficiently) and it's obviously less compact. I think my mindset was: You can't keep the shields up against all attacks, and if the internals are fragile under the shields then you're stuffed. But then again it really depends on how fast you can get the shields up again.

Aisling (You should use the "reply" button under every comment in a thread, it automatically tags whoever you're replying to, like I'm doing right now, try it for yourself XD)

Could there be a Recreational Modded position??

Aisling Most people solve that problem by either sticking another shield next to/behind the first or adding some more armor in front of it. Walkways mean extra cost and you'd usually need them in both directions, which would also require some more space. They also have barely any penetration resistance and low health.

CursedPh4nt0m I've run a couple of various tests with the Castle Archer after doing a fair bit of optimization on the Beamer Boi Mk.IIIa, and I have come to the conclusion that added maneuverability and modular efficiency isn't quite enough since the flak is too heavy and the Castle Archer rotates too quickly, and I need moar dakka. I am now 'Upgrading' The Beamer Boi into a new ship entirely. Kinda.

Aisling Well, actually my Castle Archer made it into GiF (Galaxy in Flames/possibly the hardest bounty hunter mod there is). It's my fault for beeing too lazy to design you a new ship to fight against.
I tested your ship against a slightly cheaper cannon wall before and lost pretty hard, that's why I expected the Castle Archer to be okay. It's currently weaker than the original version btw, the railgun accelerator nerv hit most of my designs pretty hard.
Still working on some ships using the Galactic Civil War mod (yep, it's 'GCW' for short), but I've got a free day, so I'd be happy to build you something weaker for your Beamer Boi Mk.IIIa.

                CursedPh4nt0m Oh ok
So this is the Optimized and Upgraded Variant of the BB, It almost certainly has a load of flaws still but it has fixed a couple.

And this is the abomination I made out of the BB, It's still in the testing phase, I haven't yet tested it against the CA but I got bored and checked the forums and now I'm writing this.
You might not like it but this is what peak performance looks like
Ik it's bad but I was Bored dammit, and I hadn't made a block ship yet.

Aisling Everyone has made a block ship at one point, everyone.
Also, if you want more efficiency you should go for a different ship shape, I'd go for a diagonal ship, shaped like a V, and inside its mouth there'd be cannons.

                  Fort_Master_Gustav
I've been meaning to make one but I've been caught up recently making those messes above.
Given the focus fire increase you can have on a V ship, I'm thinking small laser spam would be good because that sounds like an original idea no one has done before

Aisling that's actually how I started doing them, but I came to realize that the raw DPS the large cannons dish out is far superior :p

Fort_Master_Gustav Is there, by any chance, a mod that does diagonal lines of symmetry?

Aisling not that I know of, no. Just set a center then copy and past the sides.

Aisling My CA was designed to fight larger ships after all, guess I'll get you something with cannons instead of railguns and some less backwards thrust.
Your BB still uses too many reactors. The inner thruster modules will only have on side active at once, meaning the reactor will only have to power one side too. You should also power two shields with one reactor instead of getting every shield an own and put the ammo factories directly behind your cannons. You could reduce the number of doors here and there btw.
                        That's no peak performance tho.
As Gustav already said, everyone has made a block ship at one point. I'd post one of mine, but they're all terribly old and extremely inefficient....
                        About that other ship:

                        • Internal weapons rarely work as intended

                        • Laser arrays on something that large are rather pointless

                        • You should check on your door placement

                        • Reduce the amount of armor behind some outer modules

                        • At this point, I'm just gonna send you some of my modules. Use them until you've got the energy usage and general efficiency figured (you'll probably continue using them afterwards, they're already pretty good)

Some modules for you to use:
                        image https://i.imgur.com/bXgJQbm.png

I'd also suggest having a functionality test by selecting all weapons of your module, setting them to 'Auto-Fire' and adding/(re)moving parts based on the results. Wait, I've got a small guide on how to build good ships somewhere, lemme find and copy-paste it:

                        1. Get a nice frame (or skip this if you don't have any)

                        2. Decide where to put which parts

                        3. Place the parts you decided on

                        4. Test everything and deal with any issues you might spot

                        5. Have a test fight against a ship with a similar cost

                        6. Improve any weaknesses you've spotted during the fight

                        7. Have another test fight against a way better ship

                        8. Improve durability where needed; take care of any new problems

                        9. Safe your new ship (may also be done before testing and/or after editing)

                        10. Give it some nice paint if you feel like (and safe the painted ship too)

                        image https://i.imgur.com/BRau9CQ.jpg

Astrum I won with this ship

CursedPh4nt0m Thanks, although I might modify some compartments slightly so I don't feel so much like I'm using someone else's work because it just doesn't feel entirely right for me.
