I'm gonna go with, do reference vanilla game files instead of copying them if you are reusing assets. You've got no idea how many times I see people reupload the same sprites and the worst one: shield.shader from the vanilla game so there's 40 versions of the same file amongst mods.
Do’s, and Don’ts for MODDING!

DON’T constantly hassle YouTubers to use your mods.
It will just make them hate you.

DO get other people to test your mod and take a look at your sprites. There may be something in it that missed.

Do NOT make a part a wedge.
If the wedge is of an pre-existing shape( e.g. armor wedges) , make the wedge the part.
Had some experiences with making a wedge out of a shield in the past...oh the horrors...
jbox1 DO use version control software (like GitHub) so you can easily manage your versions and so you don't have to reupload and change download links for every update.
Also, add Sublime Text to the text editor part
jbox1 DO add language packs
Because some people have to use Google Translate to use the forums!
FireShredder24 In all due respect, most modders simply don't have the time to add the extra localisation files :/
Ofc, if you are a native speaker in a language, by all means, feel free to add them. Otherwise, it's a LOT of work.
