v0.1: http://bit.ly/planetMversion01
v0.2: http://bit.ly/planetMversion02
Here it is! - Cosmosteer v0.13.1 and under - as of now, planet making is available in cosmosteer's dev mode.
Features:
Ability to customise up to 4 layers of the planet, and save them as a text file - ready to be put directly into the mod.
the customisation includes:
- distortion of the underlying rng used to generate terrain - quite volatile
- editing colour ramps
- editing the nighttime amount
- intuitive names for the variables so you don't have to guess things like what "PoleEffectLatitudeExponent" is!
- multiple layers (v0.2 and beyond)
Upcoming features:
- atmospheres(v0.3) - next feature to be done
- importing planet files
- More utility functions.

Installing a planet (I'm assuming you know basic modding):
After you got your whatever.txt that is the planet.
You have to either
- MAKE a mod with the planet inside
- or insert the planet into an existing mod with planets
(oh no)
Making a mod with the planet inside
In the game, the game doesn't know jack about your new planet unless you punch it in the face and tell it so.
To do that, mod planets.txt (inside \Data\Planets) which contains a list of planets that the game should load.
Add your planet(both in the textfile and in the folder that is your mod(mod.txt and all))
annnnnnd bingo - nothing happens?
However, that's not quite violent enough to get your planet in the game. The game doesn't know where tf to put your planet when it's generating a galaxy. Hence you would also have to break(i mean mod) the galaxy generators
within \Data\GalaxyMap\Map Generators - there you plop down your planet's id (planet's nickname that you specified in planets.txt) in a list that seems to have a lot of planet names e.g.
(Styles
[
"terra"
"terra"
"barren"
"barren"
"barren"
"barren"
"alien"
"bestestplanetfornorthkoreaconquest"
])
and tada, loading up that generator you will (assuming you didn't break the game), see your purple yellow abomination slowing spinning alone through the vast ballroom of space, lit squarely by the suspiciously close star in the centre.
Happy modding!
