jbox1 Adun immediately orders General Ewadau, who is currently checking the work of actual ship crew while holding a buffed laser repeater, to not shoot anywhere under any circumstance. He also orders Lead Engineer to scan the drone and possibly determine its intentions by analyzing the current. To the extreme surprise of both Engineer and Adun, the Drones actually used alternating current rather than Offworld direct. Adun quickly joins both parts of the puzzle together and gets the weapon of protesting Ewadau to modify it to use alternating current, copied from the Drone's power core. The test succeeds, and (because I'm a nerd and have nothing better to do) the results were spectacular. The Offworld "Photonium", actually an alloy formed naturally within some asteroids, is known for creating photons out of oxygen when a current is sent between one clean Photonium and Photonium-Thorium alloy. (Tl;dr forms lazorz when zapped) Different current values affect the projected photons: higher voltage decreases area of effect (lazor shoots in one spot and not in a circle around everything) and higher current increases amounts of photons (lazor hurts more). Higher resistance of the - side (shooty end) increases energy consumption and range, while higher resistance of + side (not shooty end) increases time needed for the current to pass (time between lazors is bigger) and increases damage. The Repeater was modified for fire rate and AoE, creating a laserthrower from the weapon, and a copy of it was modified to use alternating current for slow, but focused and deadly beams. Sniper lazor was handed to Ewadau and thrower to Adun.

Adun: We are in a dire need for a remote place to hide from the Offworld. We will send you a blueprint for a man-sized drone frame which will allow it to remotely assume humanoid form and a weapon, with included modification instructions, if you do not reveal our location to Offworld. We promise not to touch any resources outside this asteroid. Scans indicated that the asteroid had a small chunk of iron and Thorium, as well as rare gold chunks. If you wish to retain full alliance to Offworld and kill us, it is your choice. I only need one thing of you. Conserve this weapon scheme, don't let it be lost in spilled blood and wrecked iron, so we may pass on our developments.
Transmission end
Any sentient being would probably notice that Adun and most of Hawkorp is just as interested in science as Offworld is, if not more.
