We've all done it! You make a craft, and you think: "it's an unnamed drone! well, an unmanned drone with people in it", and then realize you sound like an idiot, search desperately for a drones mod, that isn't ABH, and you come across this. well, welcome my friend! You have come to the right place if you want all the custom drone goodness!
Drones ++ (0.6)
Fools ++ features...
- Game changing new mechanics
- Drone cores that can power parts around them and control ships
- Wireless control of drones, or self contained AI drones
- In-game tutorials that even a noob could understand
- Built-in ship library and drone bounties
- New drone tailored weapons and parts
- The best balancing possible for a mod that is literally powering parts for you
... and so much more!
Fools ++ is still in beta, so its full of bugs and issues and upcoming features, but with any luck, it will all turn out well in the end!

FAQS
I haven’t gotten that many questions, but in case I was, these are probably the questions I’d be asked.
Edit: nope! I have been spammed, spammed, by questions! So before you continue, you can check these FAQs. If the answer you are looking for is not there, or you just enjoy spamming me, feel free to reply to this post! Alternatively, you can check the Drones ++ discord server or the Drones ++ mod talk subsection, where I will hopefully be able to reply to your questions!
How do I get the drone core to work?
A drone core needs a connection to a drone controller or AI module nearby. The connection needs to be on a crewed craft, and must have power to function. A controller can control drones up to 500 meters away, so try moving your controller closer if it is not working.
My drone core isn’t powering my parts!
A drone core can only power parts up to 3 blocks away, (a large drone core an power parts 7 blocks away) so check that everything on your drone is close enough. Weather or not the parts have line of sight is irrelevant to their functionality, just so long as the part is in range. Sometimes, spawned drones will have an error, which (as crazy as this may sound) can be fixed by pressing 'reset crew positions' in the crew tab. Also, a drone core will not generate power if it doesn’t have a connection to a transmitter or AI module, so check the post above to be sure.
My weapons/other parts aren’t working, even though they have power!
All stock weapons and a number of other parts need crew to function, so a drone cannot control them. Instead either use the automated variant of that part simply suffer the consequences.
What parts can a drone use and control?
- Thrusters
- Shields (however, many drone cores will be needed to power them effectivelly)
- Point Defense Systems
- FTL Drives
- Automated Sensors
- Automated Ranged Offense Systems
- Automated Cannons
- Automated Electro Bolts
- Automated Missile Launchers
What about modded parts?
Modded parts that run on plasma batteries and do not need crew will work on drones just fine.
What is the range of the controller?
500 meters. If you are foreign to the metric system (or would like a frame of reference) imagine 5 of @Teg ‘s ships. Alternatively, the AI module, which allows drones within 200m (2 of @Teg ‘s ships) to act independently, and it itself needs no crew to function. Is @Teg ‘s ship a new unit of measure?
Yes, yes it is.
Why do drones have people in them?
Unfortunately, Cosmoteer isn't very drone friendly. Any craft that has no crew and no control is considered junk, and along with that, all drones are officially junk. To counteract this, all drone cores have a crew member in them. He will be unable to interact, so it won't affect gameplay, aside from the fact drones won't be considered junk. Occasionally, he will not spawn in his drone core, and an error will be displayed above the drone. This can be fixed by pressing 'reset crew positions' in the crew tab.
My drone core says “ERR”
Your drone core has had a bootup error, and has become unresponsive. It will not power parts nor will it have the ability to control ships. To fix this, go into the “crew” tab and select “reset crew posititons”. This will reboot the drone core and it should function normally from there. Errors are common when placing a ship from the ship library, or when constructing a new drone. They can also be caused by fire damage.
