The paint job of the ship seems similar to that of the Protectors of Innocence.

How odd, it seems that Dr. Lee believes more in military force than science.

It's time to test this thing in action. We have located a ship on which to test the superweapon.
Log 4:
The test failed. The superweapon refused to destroy the crew of the ship. It will be terminated and a new superweapon will be created.
Refused? It denied the will of its creators.

I guess the superweapon didn't like the idea of being terminated. I'm the only one left, the others are dead. I'm deleting the formula for the creation of the superweapon so no one can ever create another.
