Within the Curos system...
The Ex-Dominion ships finally clip the wings of the sole Stalwart-Class left defending, leaving it to go up in flames as many men aboard are consumed by the tight corridors and flames...
"HAHA! I KNEW THIS WAS AN EASY FIGHT! AIM ALL GUNS TOWARDS THE PLANET, WE'RE GOING TO ANNIHILATE THIS WORTHLESS LUMP OF ROCK!" Raunveik screams. All ships of the fleet begin aiming their guns toward the planet and firing as much orbital bombardment ammunition as possible, completely decimating the planet's surface and putting the ADL's terraforming projects back at least 20 years. The devastation on the planet's surface is absolute, no structure left standing on the side of the planet receiving bombardment. A dim orange glow emminates from the planet's surface. But, during this assault, the Ex-Dominion ships are left open...
"Sir! We're locked!" the Ocino-Class commanders tell Aio'ne. A resounding call from the fleet rings: all weapons locked, all fighters and interceptors ready to launch.
"Finally!" Aio'ne shouts, breaking fleet silence to let this one order roar. "ALL SHIPS, OPEN FIRE!"
With the resounding order heard across the fleet, the carriers launch their fighter-bombers at a blistering speed, giving them every bit of defensive PD cover possible. The Furos herself fires, the casaba howitzers ringing the hull of the massive battlecruiser like a brass bell, the massive Gauss firepower across the fleet being focused upon the smaller vessels. The Dominion ships, caught up in glassing Curos itself, have not nearly enough time to respond, the shielding ships being the first to detect the massive barrage. These ships, desperate to protect all they can, activate shields at full power, protecting merely themselves and Raunveik himself. The other ships of the Dominion fleet, left out in the cold as all power had been diverted to weaponry, are struck by the mass barrage, certainly from the massive Gauss barrages from the cannons, piercing holes in their hulls and causing heavy casualties. The casaba howitzers mounted upon the Furos find their target, Raunveik's ship. The shields definitely protect against some, but enough of the shells make it through and decimate the light armor of the ship, causing the power to flicker within.
"WHAT?! THESE ROACHES HAVE BACKUP!?" Raunveik yells, furious as to this abhorrent lack of recon. "HOW DID WE NOT DETECT THEM!?"
No man is brave enough to tell Raunveik the true magnitude of the disaster, the apparent lack of recon and sensors from the sheer power put towards glassing Curos' surface now showing its downside.
The Dominion counterattack is swift, but poorly coordinated and ragged, the ships remaining attempting to spin their spinal guns towards the oncoming attackers, all turrets turning to face. The guns of the Dominion sing as they attempt to defend whatever honor was left of the now-absent home. The smallest ships of the ADL are struck and destroyed, primarily a large portion of the destroyer force.
"What're our losses?!" Aio'ne demands from his commanders.
"Sir, we've taken heavy losses of the Thunderstorm-Class, and about 20 percent of our Y-Class!" another officer aboard the bridge reports.
"Launch the fighters, and have them STRIKE THE FLAGSHIP!" Aio'ne demands, his booming voice carrying throughout the bridge.
Nearly on-command, the remaining fighter-bombers are launched for an all-out attack on the remaining Dominion fleet, the previously launched fighters serving as a cover for the fleet. Within a few minutes, the next salvo of the Alsinan fleet rings firm, the hull of the Furos and other larger ships being rocked with the mass amount of firepower pouring out of the weapons. The Ocino-Class, left at the back of the battlefield, whose AShM missiles were launched before, finally strike their target through a near-hellish barrage of point defense, shooting down about half of the missiles. The half which make it through decimate the shield ships, leaving the few remaining ships of the Dominion to be Raunveik's flagship, which contains himself, and the elite guard of his escort. These ships, knowing good and well that the fight will soon be over, push their point defenses to their absolute limits, shooting down near every missile which comes their way. Nothing they do can stop a casaba howitzer piercing the heart of Raunveik's flagship and the mass barrages of the other Alsinan striking and destroying the escort near to a man. The Searing Flame of Eternity, a once mighty eagle now is brought to the ground, fighting till her last shell, the admiral which guided her into this defeat being annihilated with a casaba howitzer round directly to the bridge. The internal backup bridge, guided by a much more intelligent commander, orders the final order from this once beautiful ship: "Fight to the end!" The spinal gun on the ship fires one final time, crippling a Viper-Class Carrier with her final shot, as the final fate of this ship is set in stone with the fighter-bombers finally making their attack runs on the crippled behemoth, with the easiest targeting of their careers leading to the Searing Flame of Eternity to take the final knee of defeat, the reactor failing and the weapons going offline. Soon after, the flames aboard the ship consume her, causing the magazines littered around the ship to detonate, sending massive pieces of the once-glorious ship flying. No survivors were picked up from any Dominion ships.
The Battle of Curos is won, victory going to the Alsinan Defense League, though at a hefty price. Terraforming is never cheap, after all.
