SECTOR ELYSIUM - ELYSIUM NEBULA | GY 3019
The brightness wasn't anything to be happy about - in fact, it could even be considered as dark as the average midnight on Earth, the original home planet for the humans in G-S16. Sure, it was usually very black out in space, however without close proximity to the stars, everything was darkened up, and even the blue had to be artificially illuminated just so that you could see a little bit... but that wasn't a deterrence to the four ships cruising in the Elysium Nebula, no way. The four burning thruster plumes emitted by the main fusion drive assemblies lit up the deep space area around them, along with the thousands of little pinpricks of light that turned out to be stars. It was a relatively young nebula, only being slightly brightened by it's stellar remnant that shed it's outer shell of gas and dust to form this formation, depressing on the inside but through a telescope... it was very pretty.
And everyone on board the 'Riding On The Solar Wind' agreed. Staying at sublight gave them nice perks, such as being able to peer out of the vidscreens and see the three other ships of the assembled group thrusting forward on their main drive assemblies, but the few unprivelaged to work deep inside the ship and manage engineering were toiling to keep the drive assembly running. Head Engineer Brian Anders looked at the efficiency monitors. The Cold Fusion Reactors were working efficiently - so efficiently, in fact, that they had been out-performing the intended design thanks to the efforts of the engineers. Their muon supplies were running slightly low, so they should be working for a couple more months, but the Cold Fusions were designed for long-term operation in deep space without resupply, and they had a mission so they can sort it out later. Anders brought up a holographic interface, blue projections coming out of his console. "Captain, all systems running at peak efficiency, you should be good in case you run into any trouble," Brian informed over the communications, before he went back to work.
On the bridge, the Captain nodded silently before looking at the spherical holo-grid projected by the intricate system of energetic photon release. This grid was tied directly to the Mark One Sensor Package, the latest package devised by the Sovereignty, long-ranged and accurate but it had it's limits. They were within three light-minutes of the target portal, the one that Thrawn's Empire warned them not to approach, and then the screen lit up. They were at short-range sensors right now, so they could only see things within twelve light-minutes however near the portal an Imperial fleet jumped in. They were tasked to investigate this portal, and the Captain wasn't going to let anyone get in his way. He had a sworn duty, an oath to carry out missions, and he was assigned the leader of this task force for the very reason of investigating the portal, however he wasn't an aggressive man either. He was going to hail the TIE and if that didn't work, something would be done. "Send them a standard hail, galactic standard hypercoms. Warn them to back off the portal" he ordered, before the communications officer replied with a "Yes sir." The bridge crew was a new one however they knew what professionalism meant and they followed their orders to the letter. The Communications officer brought up a projected screen, with many symbols and dials, he rotated a ring to a particular setting and then tapped a button which sent a communique to the Infinite Empire fleet, and then spoke into his microphone, "Attention TIE vessels, you are trespassing within Illateri Sovereignty territory, please back off now."
And they waited for an answer.
