I'm not gonna talk about soap, since my experience lies with more with biggers ships and it seems to be fairly okay. Somebody else can help you with that one, at least better than I can.
So let's talk about your recently posted angel.
First of all: This needs fixing:
The flak needs a door to crew and should be easily fixable.
Second: Powering of shields could be better. When using large cannon modules, it's best to design a compact module first, containing everything needed. this way you can avoid corridors and longer travel distances.
Example of a good module:
It's compact and not too expensive. Better shield powering can be done by adding an extra crew quarters, but is not really worth the extra cost.
And finally: Remove some barely needed stuff. Those cannons at the side are rarely going to fire (you fight with your front towards the enemy.). Replace them with more missile modules, perhaps?
It's about the same for the shields at the back. Unless fighting multiple ships you will almost never get hit there. Replace them with something like more engines, or just remove them to make your ship lighter and cheaper.
Your challenge: Try to beat Split Personality. (AI vs AI , not you vs AI)). It's an outdated ship of mine, after following my advice you should be able to defeat it.
