Well, using logic you could in theory just have a fleet keep jumping and refuelling towards any galaxy using a normal jump drive.
Gates simply speed up the process.
And as i said, Tau would know at least the general direction of where this is, and using simple calculations could work out which galaxies are in said general direction and send stuff to the one that is most likely to contain them.
Simply knowing the direction of FTL travel would be enough to know what galaxy it is from, since galaxies are VERY far apart, so its easy to comprehend that the GSR could just work out its location from that alone.
Sure, there might be seven other galaxies in that direction, but that is still easy to work out, since in theory the AD would be in a close galaxy, therefore the closest one in that direction is likely to be the one they are in.
And this whole point is useless anyway, since Tau could have told them as i said earlier.
+ ComradeShiba 's faction is itself from another galaxy, meaning they do have the capability to jump here.
although i will agree that it seems unlikely they would know considering they are not in the SA. nevermind XD
