The Tau fleet seemingly was holding its own ground, especially after the Zerg's decision to abandon the battle, it seems that little would be able to severely damage the fleet at all.
Meanwhile, at [REDACTED]
A slightly distorted voice, clearly Cutter, speaks.
"Sir... The battle is going smoothly.
Although the computer is registering corruption is at critical levels."
"Hmm..."
"Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much more it can take before it starts to break.
Even the smallest alteration could screw with it irreparably."
"It should be fine...
How are the boarding teams doing?"
"Im not sure, we have not sent out too many yet..."
The boarding missiles from the Tau fleet are almost all targeting Ascendant dawn's larger warships...
With their own shield systems, they are practically invulnerable to the PD systems that most field, circling around, awaiting a gap in their shields to ram into the enemy ship...
Most shots fired at TC ships seem to be doing practically nothing except piercing their outer shields, and then being absorbed by the secondary shields within them.
Due to the fleet organisation provided by 5 of the largest warships that Tau can field, ships with disabled shields simply circle around the fleet while they recharge, hiding behind other ships.
Without the constant threat of small Zerg, the ships can form into a figure of eight formation, with the five main ships in the middle and ships in a multi-layered battle line circling around the figure of eight, firing and taking damage before heading back to recharge shields and resupply fighters.
(if you consider this battle to be happening in 3d space, then instead of a one figure of eight imagine one upright and one on its side, so it intersects multiple times and provides numerous ways to fire at targets straying into it or far off.)
Whatever carriers where present are gone, presumably leaving their fighters behind.
However, despite their best efforts, numerous ships erupt into flames and detonate as their armour is pierced and their ammo and fuel detonates.
Many smaller ships fall to this fate, although thankfully losses of life are minimal due to the proximity to other ships.
Although, at first the near c projectiles proved to be an issue, the reconfiguration of their on board close in FTL interdictors results in any projectile heading towards them being slowed down, although still hitting at stupidly fast speeds, the weapons effectiveness is now practically halved.
