An indicator on the main hololith display lights up, signifying that the fleet is ready to jump. Mirnath looks over to the admiral, awaiting his command. It's not too late, they could still fight and the tide might be turned...
Then he looks over to her and shakes his head with a soft smile. "Sometimes the path to victory is knowing where and when to fight and when you must flee to fight elsewhere. Besides, we'll give them a parting gift."
Here his grin turns maniacal. "Jump. And fire the Editors."
Above the warring fleets, reality tears, like a piece of fabric pulled too tight. The combined Dawn and Imperium fleets vanish into the rift with a blinding flare of light, but the rift doesn't simply close up after them. Agitated and twisted by the Editors, those fell engines of the Elder Days, the rift only yawns wider, spewing destructive energies across the Assembly ships and beginning to grow at an alarming rate...
At the edge of the system, the Tau fleet receives a message.
"Once you were our allies. You stood with our forefathers and helped to build the Assembly. But now you are rootless, your worlds ruined and your people on the brink. So we beg you, for the sake of your race and your future, stand apart from this conflict. The War in Heaven was never truly won or lost, and it rages across the stars more fiercely than ever. Remain neutral in this war, and we shall do everything in power to ensure that no harm comes to you."
