They are from the mod but set aside due to its crashing bug. It's not a coincidence it bears perceived similarity to some other weapons of the time because they were actually created at the same time, and frankly, have direct ties to Abh.

Forgive the necropost, but the splitfire point defenses appear to be broken. While they do try to aim at missiles and cannon shots they never open fire.

So I think I found the source of the bug in the splitfire PD:

ResExsention No, that's probably for the fire effect and sound and doesn't matter.
ResExsention The actual issue is likely something with teh firing mechanism or target acquisition, however I haven´t looked into it yet, media effects are purely aesthetic.

Brank Yup, there were no major modding changes in-between 0.15.3 and 0.15.6. Only one from 0.15.2 to 0.15.3. Only if the mod used the IncludeInBlueprintsInToggleMode parameter would the mod be broken (because 0.15.6 removed that parameter, but I don't think this mod was using that).
