Near the volcanic planet of Nyria X84, a Valkyrie VS-5 Watchman surveillance satellite floats aimlessly in space, watching for anything unusual. If this satellite could talk, it would perhaps say "Nothing here, as always." If it ever did detect anything out of its regular programming parameters, it would send the info to Valkyrie Headquarters. But, in this sector of space, nothing really happens here.
Suddenly, it detects a huge disturbance in the fluctuations of space-time. It automatically sends a signal to Valkyrie Headquarters of its finding, though, due to the far distance of space they are located from, the signal will take 10 minutes to reach Valkyrie, and vice versa. The satellite starts to drift towards the disturbance. It attempts to correct itself, but the gravity around the disturbance is too strong.
The object then appears out of the blue. Quickly, the satellite snaps a picture as it gets closer and closer to the object. It then crashes into the side of the object at very high speed, evaporating itself. Well, something did happen in this sector of the galaxy. Something big indeed.
The photo takes ten minutes to reach Valkyrie Headquarters. The signal is picked up by their satellite control room. Soon, the photo renders on their control screens, shocking everyone in the room.
Valkyrie Headquarters Data Center Control Room
The manager sends someone to report this to the CEO. The messenger rushes past multiple executives and fellow coworkers. He rushes up to the hyper-elevator, and presses floor 350, the CEO floor.
Valkyrie Headquarters
The hyper-elevator zooms up. Luckily this one was empty, or else he would have to wait - suddenly, the elevator stops at the 214th floor, and soon enters some noisy schoolchildren.
"Damn, I forgot Eron Elementary had a field trip today!" he thought.
Eron Elementary is the elementary school located near Valkyrie Headquarters, and the school and headquarters are located in Vios City, and that is located on the planet Eros 5, one of the most populated planets in the Cosmoteer Galaxy.
The noisy schoolchildren were laughing and throwing things around the tight elevator. Most of them looked to be around 9 or 10. He looked at the teacher, and she looked back at him. They locked eyes for a moment, and then the teacher swiveled away, pressing the button for floor 300.
After waiting a bit, the reached floor 300, in which the school children exited. The teacher tripped and dropped her folders she was holding, spilling it all over the elevator floor.
The elevator door then shut.
"Oh no! Wait! The kids!" she exclaimed.
'Time to do something.' he thought. "Are you alright?"
"No! The children...I left them on the 300th floor!" she put her hands to her eyes, starting to sob. "I'm a real screw up!"
He walked next to her. He put his finger to his chin, rubbing it in thought.
"Is there anyone there watching them besides you?" he asked.
"Well, there is my assistant...but..."
"Then they should be fine then! Don't worry, I'll personally escort you back after I run this errand."
She stopped sobbing. He pulled out a handkerchief from his back pocket, and gave it to her.
"Here, take this," he said.
"Thank you very much," she said, taking it from his hands, and wiped her eyes. "What's your name?"
"Grayson. Grayson Knox, but you can call me Gray," he said.
"Katelyn Harper. Nice to meet you Gray," she said. "Oh, and you can call me Kate for short." They shook hands, and could feel a little flutter in their chests.
Kate looked down at her hands. Gray was still holding on. She cleared her throat and smiled.
"Um, Gray?"
"Oh, um...sorry," he said, letting go of her hand. He blushed a little.
"So, where are you going? It seems important," she asked.
"I've got this image from a sector of the galaxy that's very important. One of our satellites picked it up just this morning. It's..." he said. He stayed silent for a bit, thinking about how he should word it. "It's...believed to be highly dangerous, and perhaps even life threatening."
Kate's eyes widened a little.
"Well, we can do something about it, can we? I mean, this is Valkyrie after all."
"Perhaps...but we'll have to see what the boss says."
"Who is the boss anyways?"
As if on cue, the hyper-elevator reached the 350th floor, the CEO suite. They exited the elevator, as the elevator doors shut behind them.
They soon found themselves in a long hallway, with sliding doors in front of them.
"The boss is just on the other side," Gray said. They walked towards the door, and as they got close to it, sensors detected their, opening the doors once they were a foot or two away. They entered the CEO room.
There was someone sitting behind the desk, the chair facing away from them.
Gray spoke up.
"Um, sir, I have-"
A hand raised, silencing him.
"Please, sit down. Make yourself comfortable." the voice said.
Gray and Kate sat down on the chairs, making themselves as comfortable as they could. The chair swiveled around. The voice soon revealed himself.
It was Jamoke D. Sanderson. He was nearing his 40's, but he looked as good as he ever did as a 20 year old, especially due to Valkyrie's high-tech stem cell therapy treatments.
"So, what do you have in store for me?" Jamoke asked. He looked at Kate, eyeing her. Gray felt a little tinge of jealousy. He smiled. "And who's your lady friend?"
"That's Katelyn, sir, she's a teacher here at Eron Elementary."
"Nice to meet you Katelyn. Say, you have the most gorgeous of eyes I have ever seen in this sector of the galaxy."
Kate actually blushed, and looked down at her lap.
"Thank you, your too kind."
Gray was horrified on the inside, but remained firm. He decided he should change the subject, quickly.
"Mr. Sanderson, I'm here today because the team down at the satellite room detected a large object near Nyria X84 by one of our satellites, VX529-A to be exact."
Gray pulled out holo-projector from his pocket. He stood up, pointing at the table.
"May I?" he asked.
Jamoke nodded. Gray placed the holo-projector on Jamoke's table, activating it in the process. It then projected a high resolution image of the photo taken by the satellite. Jamoke's eyes widened, and his jaw dropped.
Jamoke studied the image for a few minutes. Gray became a little nervous, and started to fidget his hands while standing in place. Finally, Jamoke spoke, rubbing his chin.
"And you said you found this where?"
"Near Nyria X84, sir. Which was near the site of-"
"The A.S.S. Incident, I know. I...I was there." Jamoke spoke in a trembly voice.
Gray was shocked.
"You were? How? And why?"
"That is a tale for another day. I have seen many things in my lifetime, things some people would never believe of seeing, but we are starting a new tale, here and now," Jamoke said. "How big have you projected it as?"
"Well...from what we got so far, we predicted around 580 meters in height, and around 205 meters in length," Gray explained. "It's...it's really big."
"And potentially really dangerous," Jamoke added.
"What should we do, sir?" Gray asked.
"We sit, and we wait. Make sure to mark that zone as a Valkyrie Restricted Space. Do not let anyone into there," Jamoke said. "We need to see what it does first, then act upon it. If it is peaceful, I will authorize a research team to go there. If it is dangerous, and God forbid if it is, I will authorize a strike force to attack it. You are dismissed."
Gray and Kate proceeded to exit the room.
"Oh, and Gray?" Jamoke asked. Gray looked at him.
"Sir?"
"Gray, I want you to do me a favor."
Gray walked up to Jamoke, Kate behind him.
"Anything sir, just name it."
"I want you to lead the research team. Even if it is deemed dangerous, whatever it is, we could gain valuable information from it."
"Me? But I'm only a messenger! I deliver messages, not head research teams!" Gray exclaimed.
"Ah, but I want you to carry a message," Jamoke said, smiling. "Come here son."
Jamoke ushered Gray over. Gray leaned next to Jamoke, and whispered something into his ear. Gray gasped, and staggered backwards.
"But sir! I-"
"Now go on ahead. We need to study this thing before it makes a move. Oh, and Mrs. Katelyn?"
"You can call me Kate, sir. And before you say anything - I want to go along with Gray on the mission."
Gray gasped. "What?! But Kate, we just met! And this could be very dangerous!"
"The dangerous the better. I'm sorry to say this, but being a teacher isn't as fun as I thought it was."
Jamoke interrupted. "I was going to ask if you would like to have dinner at my place, but...well, perhaps you can go."
"Thank you, Mr. Sanderson. Perhaps one day we could?"
Gray frowned slightly.
"That would be splendid. And call me Jamoke, please. Now off you two go. I will assign you your team later, and you may debrief them."
Gray and Kate exited the office, and headed down the elevator.
Jamoke sat in his chair, staring intently at the image.
"Why did you come back? And what for?" he said. He really hoped no one would investigate...
But oh, rules are meant to be broken, eh?
I hope you guys enjoyed the story! Before you roleplay, I want to lay some ground rules:
- Please, no overpowered superweapons, or super-duper massive fleets consisting of hundreds of thousands of ships
- This machine is impervious to many things, and can absorb them for energy. Sort of like the A.S.S., only bigger. Like a lot more bigger.
- No bad or toxic roleplay, please
- But most of all, have fun!
