Equalizer There is something seriously wrong with how crew are assigned to collect power for shields (and likely other tasks).
It seems crew that are far away are often chosen even though there are idle crew that are much closer.
Consider the following ship:
Testing your with 0.14.4, I'm not seeing any problems with far-away crew getting chosen to pick-up power, but I understand why you'd think that:
What's actually happening is that, once a crew delivers power, it picks a crew's quarters to return to, more-or-less at random. So when you see a crew walking down one of those long corridors, they're actually just going to a far-away quarters. And then sometimes, when the crew are almost at the quarters, they are the closest to the reactor and so get reassigned at the last minute to pick up power, so it looks like they just walked a really long way to pick up power, even though they actually didn't.
Still, crew walking a really long way to quarters when a closer one has room is a problem. I'll look into making them return to the closest quarters, which I think would improve things considerably.
mleise I think right now all idle crew can be recruited for a task without giving closer ones priority.
Closer idle crew get priority, even in 0.14.4. The real problem is them returning to random quarters, as described above.
