Let's face it, the Forumverse is getting stale, mostly with the lack of actual things going on, so I propose a galaxy wide event.
What is this event you ask?
A Mak attack
This being an actual attack with actual galaxy wide ramifications; as in, factions will lose many many ships if they don't properly strategise, and defeating the Mak would require co-operation between many factions.
My last attempt at this was the original Mak attack, which failed miserably, mostly due to lack of information and thought people put into the battles.
It was also due to the fact I didn't reveal enough info like the Mak being able to adapt to superweapons far better than standard weapons.
Here are the ground rules for the Mak (new breed)
Superweapons become useless after one use
A rule to keep people from simply spamming DSLs, they will only work once.
Standard weapons will slowly lose effectiveness.
Over the course of the event, Mak drones will adapt to counter the more common weapons.
Thermal weapons are always effective
They will always work and will never lose damage. (thermal superweapons are still superweapons and become useless after one use.) @RedAndCosmoteer
Mak population grows exponentially
Whether it be from battles where debris is left over or simply because they consume a star system, the Collective will easily number in the thousands of billions, expect numbers near the tens of millions for a single battle.
Individual drones are easily destroyed
The Mak take quantity over quality to an absurd extreme, you could throw a rock at a drone and probably kill it.
Capture of drones is impossible, period
Exactly as said, it's impossible.
Mak are a hive mind
They are a hive mind made up of countless AI, they do not have any central controller.
EMP is useless
C'mon, they've consumed galaxies, they'd have adapted to EMP millions of years before they arrived here.
Single factions cannot hope to take on the Mak alone
No, your million ships won't even come close to taking on the countless billions the Mak could easily vomit at whim.
Mak can convert matter into more drones
Debris included, be mindful of what you send.
The Mak are extremely pragmatic
They will always pursue a net gain and if they see that it will only be a loss, will retreat.
Individual drones cannot deal much damage
These are literally mass produced by the billion, a normal person could take on a drone and win.
Cyberwarfare doesn't work
Jamming/Hacking/Viruses don't work, this shouldn't even be an argument, this is a collection of countless AI that's had millions of years to adapt to pretty much every form of Cyberwarfare there is.
Psionics don't work
No-brainer, but this is a list of all information, so here it is, Mak aren't affected by Psionic attack, nor can they see Psionic illusions or Shift Portals.
Here is what I foresee the Event being.
Insertion
The Mak would enter the galaxy, this would be a force of roughly 10 Billion drones, anyone with half a brain cell would see this massive force entering the galaxy and at the least looking around, to find every ship they send is instantly disintegrated.
Retaliation
Out of fear, some factions would attack the Mak to try and drive them back, at this point the Mak would have consumed a star system and have several quadrillion drones. Destroying every drone is now an impossible task for any single faction.
Loss
A dark spot begins to form in the galaxy as the Mak rapidly expand, growing to countless quintillions of drones while the factions fruitlessly try and fight back. This is where most of the event occurs.
Unity
The factions would at this point likely unite in a Coalition to pool resources to find a way to deal with the Mak, they will find a weakness in the Mak that they could exploit and use to disable (and thus destroy) large swathes of Mak Drones.
Blitzkrieg
The Coalition will then begin an all out assault with this weapon, using it to erase countless Mak drones as they slowly regain dead space.
End
The Mak are defeated and the Political ramifications ensue. Alliances will probably be made, hatchets buried under a galaxy wide war.
Don't get me wrong, this is definitely not how the event is going to play through, don't expect all of these stages to happen, with actual failure being an option. Failure as in the galaxy is consumed with the Factions helpless to resist.
Remember, this is a galaxy spanning event with actual consequences, entire factions could be erased under the ever expanding growth of the Mak, or none at all. Factions could unite into alliances or become bitter rivals.
The point of this event is to stimulate the Forumverse, invigorate it with new life. I ask of you to spread this post, I doubt anyone here would like to see the Forumverse die.
