So, I have finally finished my first railgun ship. There are no mods so it isn't the longest railgun but it is a pretty decent one. And since it was able to defeat my one ship that I had not been able to beat before by gutting the middle I named this the Ship Breaker. I still need to do a few tweaks to it to make it a little more sturdy but I am happy with it so far
Railgun designs!
ImNotLaffng So, I decided to test out your ship and there is a glaring flaw in your design. Your railguns are way too exposed. When I tested your ship against one I made that costs about the same the railguns were taken out almost immediately which lead to your ships destruction.
This was the ship I threw together.
So, I made one change to your ship and it was able to destroy mine.
That section of armor blocks in the middle made it much harder for the railguns to be taken out which let your ship do a lot more damage since it has two railguns while mine only had the one
culanns_hound Thanks for the redesign, I designed it with more stuff in the middle and in deleting it I didn't substitute it. I was also designing it before rail guns penetrated shields.

Railgun ships!:
standard MK3 Dreadnought class
a large sized ship made to be an all purpose railgun carrier
pros:
+armour fins to stop Railgun penetration reaching engines
+side shields
+quite decent frontal shields
+quite powerful rails for its size
Cons:
-only two missile racks as extra armament
-If one Railgun blows up so does the other (sometimes, im not quite sure)
-only one command room
Modified MK3 designated Dreadnought MK3-B
A modified MK3, altered to be practically invunerable to small rails from the front
it cannot easily be insta killed by Indifference's X railgun.
Pros:
+highly shielded front
+retains some side shielding
+lighter than standard MK3
+electrobolts to disrupt shields for rails to pass
Cons:
-apsolutely no secondary armarment
-shielding can chain explode
-shields usless at an angle
A small railgun defence platform
usage:
move it to location you need it
press 1 to select the four explosives (or manually select)
detonate them, then tell the ship to rotate so the side with the Red arrows (top)
is facing towards the small red dot on the bottom right
Repeat that a couple times every now and then
and bam! spinning Railguns!
Pros:
+IT SPINS
+good shields
+can recharge while spinning
+better fire rate, as fast as it spins
Cons:
-single use
-weak rails
-cannot aim properly
now... i know it isnt below 1 Mil... but still:
what happens when you improve the MK3 for hours and hours
A huge, armed and armoured behemoth
Pros:
+8 Rails
+2 very high power rails
+2 command bridges
+lots of missiles
+decent front shields
+quite manuverable for its size
+front PD arrays
Cons:
-awful exposed Missile factories
-lack of side PD
-less turn speed
-slow to come to a stop or reverse

detonate explosive holding armour peice by center,
target it
