Electrobolts are OP?

Thats what I noticed the other day. Making big front heavy ships is basicly impossible since electrobolts just decimate your shields. What I noticed electrobolts do is:

fly trough your shields while damaging them, also damaging whats behind shields.
having more shields doesnt even help since electrobolt will fly trough all layers of shields and damage them equaly which mean a total loss of shields.
there arent many electrobolt "torpedos" necessary to bring down shields, ussualy 3-4 are enough I think.

So what do you think?

Actually, EB power drain is reduced by 33% for each shield it penetrates. But they're still very devastating vs stacked shields.

Electrobolts are extremely powerful, but there are many ways to work around them. Their short range makes them avoidable. They also have minimal damage vs armor, so if you can protect weapons without relying on shields (e.g. Ion forks) electrobolts will be much less effective.

I agree they're one of the more ship-defining weapons in the game though

klun222 That is why we have armor, good friend! Plus, the damage of an electro-bolt is fairly small, meaning other weapons are needed. Plus, a well designed ship would understand the requirement for both sheilds and armor as far as defence, as such clever design acts as the defence against electro bolts.

makes the problem even worse, second eb are way to effective at taking down defense (mostly when combined with cannons) and third there is no way to avid getting hit by eb when piloting some giant warship. Would you please tell me how to possibly protect my weapons with armor without blocking their fire?

Ion forks are a good way. The armor prevents enemy EB from doing much of anything.

Or something like this armadillo. It's designed to ran up against an enemy so that they can't focus fire. Better vs cannon+EB than vs laser+EB.

Or stay out of range with something like this wall. It can kite slow enemies to stay out of range of EB, and still fights hard at close range.

You know I meant EBs against designing big and "real" ships not bullshit walls or smt. And you know with armor like in the first pic the EBs might not hit you, but you also wont hit shit.

The first ship is actually very effective, and solidly beats the wall I posted as well as many other ships in it's price range. Try it out before complaining it's useless.

What do you mean by a "big" ship? Everyone has different standards; almost everything I make is around the 1mil mark. Some people consider 500k big, and others consider 50mil big.

Also, what do you mean by a "real" ship? If you don't like walls just use one of the first 2 options, neither of those is a wall design. If you don't like any of the ship types I posted, missile barges are also a great way to stop EB (if it's a 1v1).

You know, like any game also this game focuses ALSO on "beuty" and different playstyles. I know ship in first pic is effective, but it looks like shit. Also only having rockets on yr ship is a bit cheap dont you think. But Anyway for bounty hunter any difficulty you dont need an Extreme effective ship.

klun222 Sure, I agree that building pretty ships is one of the best parts of the game. I absolutely love looking at some of the giant faction cruisers people make (though I'm terrible at art myself). But don't expect ships built for looks to be at all balanced - that's the price of beauty.

I don't think EB are too strong for ships that are designed for battle. They might be too strong vs ships that are designed for looks (along with many other weapons), but nobody expects a ship designed for looks to fight well in battle anyways.

IMO there's a lot of ways to make powerful ships without making walls. Walls are even falling a little out of favor now; fighters and "A" ships seem to be stronger.

Basic walls are easy to make, but there are definitely stronger (and more interesting) designs out there.

Regardless, I don't think that electrobolts are overpowered

Third and first are very effective - just trust me on that. I personally think they look really cool (which is part of why I designed them that way), but if you don't I guess it's just a matter of opinion. I agree the second one is very slow, but speed doesn't matter much since it can't be kited.

Your ships look really cool! I personally don't like the paintjob, but that's probably just a matter of preference. I especially like how you did the diagonal missiles on the second one.

If you want to make your ships more effective in battle without changing looks, I would recommend tighter compartmentalization and keeping ammo production closer to the weapons. That'll help against all enemies, not just ones with electrobolts. I would also recommend using more efficient internal armor to prevent reactor chain explosions.

klun222 One more thing. I would recommend when building walls or broadsiders (The 3rd one) to spread your ship out, allow room for plenty of space in between your weapons, so that if they come under focused-fire they won't all be destroyed. (See example below.)

klun222 Look, no entity capable of thinking will make ships for combat to look nice. In fight only efectivity counts, and inefective ship = suicide, so no being capable to build spaceships, will have nice ships. And because of space bahaviour, there are no limits in desig like naval ships have, so most efective ships will be that one who brings most firepower to enemy first and destroy him before enemy return strike. So, wall style is wery probable combat design.

klun222 lol EB are fine you should be complaining about how op shields are, they allow you to basically become invincible. EB are the only thing keeping ships from being unkillable and making battles long and boring.

But lets go back to topic, EB are bit too OP, that is right, and to stack enough shields to not care about 6 EB on enemy ship, cost over milion and special design (vulnerable to other weapons). But be sure, that there are more needed aspect to balance, EB are still more or less ok, to complain a lot.

I think electro-bolts are as strong as they are to prevent draw situations where neither ship can damage the other.

Draw situations aren't a concern with large ships (due to focused fire) but are definitely possible with small ships if electro-bolts aren't used.

Equalizer Correct, agrre with that. And i think ,that with 3-5 shield EB can be totally stoped = still no draw with small ships (not enought shields to carry on small ships), more efective shields for big ships.
