Scav: "There's still the problem of it being just too damn BIG, how do you expect to staff it? and the whole point of a dyson sphere is that it doesn't have "Rooms" in it, its solid, it has a planetlike environment with atmosphere, topsoil etc on the inside, also how will day and night work if you go the whole way round the sun? and everyone knows people go a bit mad if they can't see the stars, you wont be able to on the inside of this thing, plus dangerous solar radiation will build up inside the sphere, and anyway, a ring is much easier to protect, jus' mount weapons on the rim walls, easy peasy, great killzone, whereas with theas thang youll need weapons jus' about everywhere on the outside, it just aint acheivable mate, even using matter transmutation you would need to deconstruct about 34 galaxies to get the materials needed for building"
He draws two diagrams
Sphere (Cutaway):

Ring (Exterior):

here is the scale:
Earth= One quarter of a block.
Do you see now how unbeleivably MASSIVE this thang will be? it's not logistically possible.
"See? with a ring you still get more space than you could possibly use, but expending less materials, half as many problems, and a better chance of protection against comets, meteors, and hostiles, plus you can easily get in and out, rather than having to have millions of airlocks that go through the sphere, reducing integrity"
