Regarding the star wars ships, I don't think there is an actual standard serial naming method. Naboo N-1 may be "Designed on Naboo" but I don't know what N-1 means. Arc 170, Arc may reference the armaments (?) so it means "Arc Cannon". I really don't know. I'd suspect the names are just to make them sound cool or something
As for how to create a proper serial, I don't actually name through such a method. If I did, I'd do it like this. It takes some inspiration from how the soviets would make the serials for their tanks
First 2 letters, separated via - , state the ship's purpose/role
CC - Cargo Carrier/logistical unit
TT - Troop Transport
FA - Fast Attack (Craft)
FE - Fighter/Escort
BT - Brawler/Tank
DS - Drone Ship
LS - Long Range Support
MS - Mid Range Support
PT - Patrol
After the dash is the serial. The first 2 letters of the serial states the ship classification
BS - Battleship
BC - Battle Cruiser
HC - Heavy Cruiser
LC - Light Cruiser
DE - Destroyer
FG - Frigate
CV - Corvette
CA - Craft
After the ship classification is V(insert number) for version number. V1 for version 1, V2 for Version 2 and so on. V1 means original concept and design. V2 for a redesign. V3 for a second redesign. V4 and above, you get the idea
The next part in the serial is M(insert number) for Mark number. Each version of the ship has undergone small design changes, such as greater logistics, better maneuverability, etc. for each of those changes, the Mk number increases. Each new Mk builds off of the previous Mk. So MkI is the original, MkII may have more thrusters, MkIII may have better PD, MkIV may have more fire extinguishers and so on. Mk numbers are always in roman numerals
The remaining digits show cost and the letter at the end of the serial states if this cost is in the millions of thousands. If in the millions, a point/dot may appear between the numbers. Ie, ....792K ($792 000), .......3.5M ($3 500 000). costs are rounded
Example
BT - BSV1MIV4.6M
Brawler/Tank, Battleship, version 1, MkIV, cost $4.6 Million
