The dreadnought fleet, previously just sitting at the edge of the system while negotiations go on, suddenly powers up all shields and switches their fusion drives on as their weapons go hot. The searing glow of the main engines on the capital ship lights up sensors for light-seconds in every direction as a string of unintelligible gibberish pours from their communicators.

**The fleet has been infected by the unknown virus! Disable or kill the ships before they destroy the New Scavenger's base!

MISSION: Kill the following ships while they are operating as a single fleet. Keep in mind that the system is also currently under quarantine, so reinforcements may not be able to get to you. Run or fight?

jbox1 a small blip appears on your radar, originating from a ship. It disappears in a few moments

Ever wondered what that was? Well, during their absence, the Lightning Union had perfected specialised cloaking paint. While you were distracted, Jake had equiped a spacesuit coated in it, and snuck around onto each of your ships and placed a detonator on key parts of them!

Suddenly, a quick precession of beeps ring on each of the ships, and then each of the ships experience a decently sized explosion. This explosion then causes a chain reaction on all the ships, crippling their control systems and weaponry. The Crew quaters are left untouched.

The crewed ships are disabled, and send signals of relief and joy, that they are no longer forced to fire on innocents. The dreadnought, however, is crewed by AI modules. The durasteel plating on the hull shrugs off the majority of the blast, and the engines drive the ship forward, even sending it smashing into one of its own escorts, the destroyer breaking in half, and shattering in gouts of flame. The front part of the dreadnought is somewhat damaged, but it still rages on.

Okay, so it won't let me save the damaged ship designs because the blueprint is still intact. But here's this,

jbox1 Well, we did not have any real guns, firepower, or battle-capable ships over there, and since the system has been quarantined we cannot send hundreds of men aboard battleships into danger, so we use what we have.

An update on the recent events:

The Drill unit 27 (which had just been delivered (TheUnleashedPiraat ), and thus had not yet been crewed with scavangers, but still had TA crew) speedily made it's way towards the dreadnought.

The ship was taking a lot of damage, but the main systems were still online and the drill fucntional. When they reached the Dreadnought they started drilling into the side. While durasteel is super strong, it is no match for a 10m wide drill from ASAP's.

They had cut the ship in half! But it was so big, it was still working!

The captain ordered all the crew to abandon ship, as he was going to drill deeper into the dreadnaught and destroy the main systems. This was a mission with no return.

The Drill unit self-destructed, which caused a chain reaction on the Dreadnought. All it's major systems were either critical, failing or destroyed. The Dreadnought was defeated.

Summary:

Drill unit 27 lost.
Dreadnought out of action
Scavangers are getting a free Drill unit 27 from the TA

LeftHandofGod A grand total of 4 Lightning MK 2s and 7 Lightning MK 1s and a freighter, of which half of those are out doing errands. This is not a battle they will win.

Wow. Mind blown. That was awesome. Good tips on the use of the box format, which I wish more people would use. I figured since the fleet hadn't left yet, that I could still use them. And good on you, Piraat, for figuring out a way to destroy the dreadnought without having to take in battleships, which would've cost hundreds of lives in the fighting.

jbox1, the reason the dreadnought AI went mad was because one of the infected crewmembers on the other ships cooked up some crazy computer virus and transmitted it straight through the firewalls, thus creating, in effect, a digitized version of the virus. No clue if it survived the ship's destruction, that's up to you guys. What I do know, however, is that the perpetrators of the original virus now have quite a bit to answer for.

TheUnleashedPiraat Before you ask why we don't use this effective tactic normally, it's because it is very inprecise, and thus you can't target weapons or systems only. On a ship with sentient lifeforms this would be just mass-killing people. This was an AI-controlled ship, the only person that died was the captain.

A lightning MK 1 is sent out to tow the Drill unit 27 for repairs. As Jake always said, enough duct tape can fix anything!

The joy of the box format is that you are more enforced to be creative about your storylines, instead of having overpowered stuff because “you can”, you have to use what you can at the time, such as the detonators Jake had planeted, or the mining rig of the TA...

jbox1 True. It's also a lot of fun to work with the restrictions other people give you, like the state of quarantine, instead of just being like "My big ship can shoot from 5 galaxies away and hits the reactor core of your ship"

LeftHandofGod jbox1 I think the computervirus is not destroyed, it's still in the AI. It's just that the Dreadnought's systems are destroyed, so the AI can't do anything. If someone plugged the AI into some other computer, the virus would still live on.
