I see there are plenty of ideas about factions, new stuff, etcc, but i've to advance a core "change" to the game proposal.
Right now we have ships producing ammunition and missiles and energy, but in the vast majority of sci-fi fiction, all of that has way bigger storages than in this game, and no way to produce them. But i see that'd broke any existing vehicle, and negate the idea of an independent ship. Then i come to propose 3 things, 3 different possible "entity" types.
1) Independent ship: The actual ship, can produce and store little amounts.
2) Space station: cannot move, will stay in its system, so accurate placing is mandatory for the player. This would have access to bigger factories and generators and bigger storages.
3) Ship: will not have access to factories and generators at all, but will have access to bigger storages. That would encourage higher thinking about how to spend your resources.
Plus a part which would allow a station or a ship to transfer "generated" materials to another ship (like a docking port). For example, when my ship has little energy i can do a jump to the station to refill everything, or if it's stuck i can send a cargo ship from the station to my stuck ship.
That'd sound more realistic to me, and wouldn't be hard to implement. I'd gladly help with games like that but unfortunatelly i'm more a c++ fan and i've never used c#.
