When the extraction drone returns to the quarantine blockade, Gabriel Dawn is turned over to Dr. Jacob Heins, who seems to be a physician as well as a psychologist, psychiatrist, and therapist.

By accessing the data stored in the captured Type 1 storm, the Protectors learn about the various types of Storm.
Lt. I. Stapleton and more than a thousand soldiers get into Insertion Pods...

...and prepare for their descent to the surface of the planetoid, where they will storm the Fragment of ANUBIS and battle the Storm there in order to rescue the 6 IronClad survivors.
The Insertion Pods are launched toward the planetoid with perfect accuracy, some pods even crushing several Storm.
The pods' internal shock absorption greatly lessens the impact, leaving the soldiers inside the pods completely unharmed.
A chunk of armor explodes away from each Insertion Pod, many hitting and destroying Storm.
The Protectors come out of the Pods shooting, running, dodging and diving.
The soldiers are exceptionally well trained, they seek out and take cover behind anything available, rocks, Pods, pieces of the Fragment of ANUBIS that broke off upon impact, and later on in the battle, piles of destroyed Storm.
Those that can't find cover are able to keep moving and avoid most harm. Whenever the soldiers do take a hit, they are often protected by their lightweight, bulletproof, energy resistant, heat insulated armor. Any injuries are treated rapidly and wounded soldiers are back in action quickly.
Having learned all about the types of Storm, the soldiers know exactly how to deal with the biomechanical race.
By moving unpredictably or staying in cover, the soldiers can avoid shots from the accurate Type 1s.
The soldiers prioritize destroying the Type 2s to prevent them from repairing other Storm.
Type 3 Storm have heavy plating and high firepower, but are slow and less precise, allowing them to be out-maneuvered.
The Type 4 Storm are priority targets, as their destruction will result in other Storm becoming less coordinated.
There were many Protector casualties, but in the end, the Storm were no match for the combat skill of the Protectors.
The Protectors seal off the sources of the semi-organic fluid on the ANUBIS, halting the creation of new Storm.
The majority of the soldiers begin to fortify the area in preparation for a potential Storm counter-attack while Lt. Stapleton and a group of Protectors search for a way inside the fragment.
