All ships, for now, need to be. The only exception is the base that @neoshaf is building.

xPLAYn yeah. the base is mindlessly massive. like,10,000,000 ish, my laptop is down to like, 20 fps 'when paused and I am planning and having one of my big ships docked with is. oh yeah, like 2,000 crew.
I know it's a tough limit. Believe me, I spent hours trying to make one of these ships.
Just keep in mind that these ships will not stay this way and that there are some creative liberties that can be taken with it as far as the shape goes, so don't worry a whole lot about the aesthetics of the design.
