The Making of a carrier ship

panda @Hypertion did some more testing and it looks like escape pods don't work after they have been saved. The same holds true for the fighters themselves, if you don't have a control room higher and further left it won't be the mothership/core.

Teg I was just showing what it looks like when the escape pod is on its own 😃 I was gonna build the mother ship by first copy and pasting the escape pod into a new ship then copying and pasting the module to build the entire ship 😃, so the first control room which is the escape pod that I put down will be the core

Teg Based on the bottom left Any ship could be the core I guess The one with the core is the one that should survive and be protected so it could repair and spawn an infinite number of carriers evil laugh*

Here you could see how I envisioned it. the escape pods pathway is pointed by the arrows going to the left
I also just tried to find a color scheme for the ships and the carrier itself so it is a work in progress
I also made some tests, when you destroy all the attachment for the smaller ships they would all follow the biggest one which is the carrier it's kind of awesome to see or look at when it is in action

panda If you put a CR (control room) top left in the mother ship it will work. Using an escape pod as a "core" (I'm going to call this the prime CR from now on) cannot work as you can see from you ship. The prime CR will I believe be the closet CR to the top left corner of the build grid. I'll try to do some more testing to determine how it works after a ship has been saved. This is a bit of a blow to carriers as it may mean the prime CR has to always be in an exposed position.

so the cockpit scan is top to bottom in each row from left to right?

meaning if there is a cockpit at the botton left, and one at the top right the bottom left will achieve dominance!

that specific order is really important! i was wondering if it was left to right in rows or top to bottom in rows!

this is good info, in this ship, because that top left child is farther to the left it gets priority over the escape pod which is higher! i knew it scanned but really was unsure of the order! i need to edit my suggestion topic.

for compairison, a build where all the cockpits are in the same rows

i hope you dont mind, but i used the screen shots from this topic in this suggestion topic @ https://forum.cosmoteer.net/d/2321-set-a-cockpit-as-primary to help explain the reasoning behind the suggestion which i hope will allow us to define a single cockpit as the "Core" when making these builds.

Hypertion It's fine actually it is of great help 😃 we're discovering something here 😃 soon carriers shall be a real thing in cosmoteer, I hope. Then we'll all be able to build great functioning carriers

panda Hypertion I did some more testing. After the top left prime CR is removed, the next split will choose the larger piece by weight to have the next prime CR. You can test this by using this ship:
{Edit this information is wrong, after the prime CR is removed splits are dependent on simplifying code}

The ship selected was the top left prime CR, after that you can just keep splitting until the last ship.

Walt needs to make the mothership the most massive ship rather than the top left most control room
