I would love this to be a standard feature of Cosmoteer. To have unique weapin and engine colours in MP games would be awesome. Plus it would be almost a new tactic to through off your opponent with the garish colours.

This mod only experimented with customizable laser/beam colors.
Bubbet has a thruster version -- not sure where to download his version too.

Your observation is correct.

Laser/beam color would take after crew uniform color of ship-in-focus.
As a result, laser/beam shots change color suddenly when a different ship is focused on screen.

i haven't figured out a way to lock laser/beam color per ship concurrently.
