I’ve been thinking for a while, that ships need more options in regards to “ship stances”.
Currently, ships will engage “the most threatening” enemies, by facing them with the most weapons they can, and manoeuvring to target optimum modules, (weapons reactors bridges, etc).
But there are some different approaches I’d like the ships AI’s to use, such as:
- Always face strongest shield/ most armour towards the greatest threat.
- Always attack from maximum range possible (even when equipped with multiple weapons).
- Always keep moving. Even when the ship has a good firing position I may want it to move to avoid fire itself.
- Use strafing runs, for ships without Ion beams, or without high sustained DPS, this makes a lot more sense.
- Accelerate towards a target even when in range. Ships aren’t using the best methods to counter kiters, perhaps adding the targets speed to calculated acceleration would make a difference.
- Defend an ally, I’d like some ships to prioritise defending others, over attacking the enemy.
- Fire attack target space, rather than at target ship. (this one doesn’t have much use yet, but I’m hoping the game will eventually have large AOE and area denial weapons.
I’d like to be able to save these options as a ship's save file so that they have pre-programmed orders in tournaments. But If that can’t be done, I’d still like some of these orders selectable in the game.
