I only started looking at the forums again after a few years break recently, i can get on board with a little bit of necromancy for a fun thread.
1) Faction Name:
Ironstar Union (Human)
2) Lore:
Beginning as a multi-generational effort by the now defunct CanSol mega corporation to construct a Dyson sphere, the workforce was largely comprised of low socioeconomic class families with promises of gainful employment and land rights on local worlds as settlers after twenty years of service on the Dyson sphere project.
The project, however, was plagued with problems and set-backs, combined with the star chosen for the project not containing any solid land mass planets in orbit, led to the labor force having to settle on the Dyson sphere construct itself. After three generations of degrading workers rights, poor working conditions as well as diminished funding, the labor force inevitably rebelled, leading to a sixteen year war of attrition between CanSol security and the formation of the Ironstar union, hammering the final nail in the coffin of the Dyson sphere project as well as the CanSol corporation. The Dyson sphere only progressed to 33% completion, blanketing one third of the star it was meant to encompass.
The Ironstar Union proceeded to put their massive industrial giant that they inherited beneath their feet to work and began harvesting the local gas planets and asteroids to produce technologically advanced products. From smart refrigerator systems to interstellar battleships, the sales of which help feed the growth of their own mining efforts and dreams of one day finishing the Dyson sphere they sweat and bled upon. The Ironstar Union values worker rights and protects their mining, construction and trade industries with a jealous zeal as they expand ever outward, strip mining and consuming their near star systems to fuel their ever increasing need for resources.
3) Ship Design Philosophy:
The Ironstar union favors wedge and diamond shaped vessels armed with laser and missile technology and armored with heavy shielding and large amounts of redundant armor. The vessels are typically front heavy, designed for trading blows in head on engagements and prone to flanking.
