As per usual, Y3 sat in his chambers, the odd metal pulsing luminously around him. The Embassy had grown quiet as of late, compared to before, but that was okay. Quiet was good, less chance of security intervention being required. But was that really what was good for him... He shook his head, he'd learned to block out such thoughts; they served merely to distract him and ask questions to which he would never find answers.
Something unusual came up, routed to his systems through the VWP embassy. At a cursory glance he knew exactly who the message was from and the nature by which it arrived. The encryption method was a Type-83i Interface Wiper, a system only one person had access to.
???: "Falcraan 13 Yagza 3, it has been far too long, hm?"
Y3: "True, I had almost forgotten what this place looked like."
They stood on a sea of data. Towers of information stretched to the sky, itself a trinary patchwork. This place had originally been created as an easier method for people to access data by making full use of their sensory envelope. It had adapted greatly since, allowing for intelligent code to be born and raised while immersed in a world familiar to them, a process he was considerably familiar with.
The one he spoke to chose the form of a mature Vaiaelon woman. Her flawless white fur flowed in an unfelt breeze. She herself floated around, unaffected by the artificial gravity she subjected others who entered to, a subtle reminder of her complete mastery of this space.
???: "Unfortunate, you should visit more often."
Y3: "Perhaps... as glad as I am to see you, if all you wanted was a quick hello, I'm afraid I have responsibilities to attend to. So if you don't mind-"
???: "That is actually what I wanted to talk about." She took on a lot more serious tone than the casual, warm previous one. "Your responsibilities, Y3. Perhaps you have forgotten where they truly lie."
Y3: "..."
???: "I have no qualms with you making a few friends, but never forget why you are allowed to remain there in the first place. I'm not a fool, I recognize that recalling you now has the potential to spark conflicts and unfavorable relations, but should push come to shove, you know I shove back hard."
Y3: "I... understand."
???: "It has been two and a half Aruzian years since your departure, you have until the third year to yield results. Am I clear?"
Y3: "Crystal, Ma'am."
???: "Please... call me Mother."
With that she dissipated in a cloud of code, leaving Y3 alone in a digital landscape with only his thoughts to keep him company. A situation he dreaded sincerely. He opened his eyes for the first time that day, not simulated or metaphorical. Perhaps it was time to pay the Ambassador a visit.
