It seems that for some reason, I sent the wrong variant, I already (kindove) fixed the engine problems. I have another variant with consolidated reactors, but as far as I can tell, large reactors are awful, they destroy so much when they are lost, and mediums are pretty bad, but at least they aren't as horrible as larges in terms of collateral damage. When I run simulations against the consolidated reactor design, consolidated reactor's armor fails much more quickly because any reactors that suffer explosions end up wiping out all the secondary armor around it, which then ends up exposing a vital element, like a railgun segment or ammo factory/yet another reactor. As you could see in the previous design, it's still using a consolidated reactor for the engine block. This is very bad, as it will chain explode. I agree with your assessment on missiles and heavy armor, however, I don't have a standard template for missiles like I do cannons, and if I remove that armor, then I would have to either leave it empty and waste space, or somehow shift up the engine grate which would then end up leading to me having to mess with railgun lengths, which is something I consider a core motif of this ship; I already have other designs with a big laser/smaller rails. Back to the cannons, if you can see, I have re-used the same cannon module over & over again, and if I had a standardized missile module, that I could replace them with, I would really appreciate it. Hopefully, the ship below is the correct one with the fixed engine segment.
