ONI Descending down the stairs, watching where she steps. Finally reaching the bottom she takes one of the flash bangs on her side, pulls the pin and throws it into the room off the stairs. Moving up and levelling her rifle, eliminating the targets.
Coming up on the next door, and repeating until she reached a final door which opened into a fancy office.
That’s where her target was
Her mission timer read 10:21, checking her motion tracker in case she got flanked. Ava reaches for the door knob. It’s locked. “Guess I have to do it the hard way” kicking down the door with a thud and once again levelling her rifle towards her target. At the desk sat a man, smoking a sweet Williams with boxes around him. His moustache caked with crumbs, and a belly protruding past his belt. In the confusion he coughs. “So this is who they sent to ki-“ His body hit the desk before he could finish is sentence. Ava checked putting another round into his head.
She walked around the edge of the office. Her helmets built in camera capturing everything she saw. Documents, layouts of other innie bases as well as plans for terrorist attacks. She even saw the whole plan of the UEG capital bombings, which occurred in the summer of the previous year. One where the Prime Minister and foreign diplomats were almost killed. The terrorists almost succeed too.
Leaving the compound she heads back into the woods for pickup. The dropship waits their
Leisurely, the pilot handing her a data pad with a message for her on it.
CONFIDENTIAL. All active Spartans are being redeployed to Reach. The Fleet Admiral and [NAME WITHHELD] will brief you on the situation.
The dropship heads into orbit, and docks with the waiting frigate which jumps to Reach. Ava heads to the “icebox” to sleep for the rest of the journey in cryo sleep.
Ava awakes, the cryo pod hissing open as she steps out. Coughing up the nutrient supplement she took before the journey to stop her organs from freezing and keeping her nutrients levels high enough. The nutrients supplement always tasted like lime flavoured mucus to her. Which she hated.
Slipping on her black underbody suit and making sure it was skin tight against her, before heading to the armoury. The door slides open and there it is. Her Mjolnir armour. Sitting on its “divinci arm” pedestal. A series of robotic arms protrude from the device. Stepping onto the platform and allowing the machine to reassemble the armour around her. Her helmet was placed on her head and locked in place with a hiss.
The a familiar beep of her shields being low, followed by the humm of the recharge.
A Spartan in full Mjolnir was a sight to see, awe inspiring. A green god. For the sergeant outside the armoury waiting for her, was aghast as she strode out. Walking up the hallway with him trailing behind her, “ma’am there’s something you have to see.” Handing her the data pad and accidentally fumbling it before she grabs it. Swiping through the messages for her, Ava says out loud “something big must be happening if their all there.” “Damn right ma’am.”
The pair reaches the end of the hallway, coming up to the levels elevator which will take them to the hangar.
Alex Hussaf throws the ball around the cockpit of his bird. Watching it bounce of the walls and around the cockpit. His flight helmet on the floor. The next thing he knew there was an eight foot tall war machine standing in the archway of the cockpit. “When will we be departing pilot?”
“Jesus Christ did you ever think to knock first and not sneak up on someone”
The ball bounces around the cockpit and flies towards Ava, which she catches instantly. “Sorry” she says before returning to the rear bay.
Hussaf puts on his helmet, and straps himself in
“Kilo 89 to dispatch, departing now.”
“Not yet Kilo 89. We are exiting slipspace momentarily.”
The frigate lurches, Cherenkov radiation leaking out of the slipstream portal the frigate comes out of. It has arrived at Reach the largest military installation in human history. Home to millions of soldiers, thousands of ships and an abundance of staging areas and shipyards. It was home to Ava, and the rest of the Spartans.
“Kilo 89 your clear for take off.”
The frigates hangar doors open, and the dropship is off. Flying through space to reach the atmosphere. Before beginning its descent, its greeted by a pair of the newest Multirole Space Fighters the navy is using, the SF-44 Tempest. The slide up to the dropships sides and escort it into atmosphere before returning to their duties.
The dropship passes through atmosphere without any trouble. Flying over the Mennonite Mountain range and new forests being grown. For being glassed almost 20 years ago the planet was in great shape.
The dropship comes to an open valley in the middle of the mountain range, and lands in a large clearing. It’s rear struts balancing and digging into the dirt as it’s boarding ramp drops.
Ava walks off and towards a log cabin, a good few meters away. Unusual as it may be, this log cabin was surrounded by razor wire and swarming with MP’s. Passing her papers to one who gives her the all clear as she heads inside.
Inside the cabin was an elevator. Which she stepped on taking her hundred of kilometres below the surface to a waiting tram. Getting on and taking the long journey to the mountains.
Arriving at her destination as the sole passenger, Ava steps off and heads to another elevator which takes her to the large briefing room. Not without getting past loads of security checkpoints.
The large amphitheater like room was a buzz of activity. Every single Spartan was here. Expect for those engaged in missions at the moment and cannot be called back.
ONI Ava lined up. A boy and a girl beside her.
She scanned the room hoping to find her friends. Laura and Nicholas. Finally finding them she walked towards them. They wore their black dress uniforms. Covered Campaign medals and ribbons just like the rest of the Spartans in the room. Ava soon noticed she was the only one in her “proper uniform”
She up with Laura and Nicholas. It had been a long time since she had last seen them. For they made Fire-team Crimson. The last time they were all on a mission together was years ago.
A hush falls over the room as a large man walks through the doors. Campaign ribbons and medals all over his chest. More than anyone in the room. As he walks down the amphitheater stairs towards the front of the room, where the same older woman who spoke to Ava when she was a child greeted him. Smiling and grabbing his hand. Like a mother and her son.
Ava did have to admit the man was attractive. In an animalistic sort of way.
Still murmuring amongst themselves about the giant man. Lord Admiral Terrence Hood walks out on the podium stage. The Spartans turn and salute which he salutes back. “At ease”
“Your probably wondering why you are here”
