Ever wanted to get rid of space-drag for a more realistic space battle? Now you can!
With the Realistic Combat Mod, space-drag is (mostly) a thing of the past! Now, a starship's engine design is even more important because:
1. acceleration/deceleration is now more important than top speed because all ships now have the same top speed - almost infinity (however I doubt ships will usually hit that speed because of point #2). As of v1.0.1, a minimal amount of space-drag was re-added as flying at or near infinite speed may have been causing a crash.
2. Assuming same thrust force, the amount of time a ship accelerates is the same time the ship takes to decelerate (so most ships would never thrust the length of time to reach almost infinity).
Additionally, this mod makes a couple other changes:
1. Engine thrust has been halved to balance no space-drag - should help reduce the acceleration of large ships proportionally more than any reduction of acceleration to small ships so small ships retain their maneuverable advantage,
2. Reactor weight has been doubled for both the reason listed above and to reduce maneuverability of small ships with medium or large reactors (I'm not strictly opposed to them but I don't think they should be that fast). Larger ships with few reactors shouldn't see much difference with this change - mostly large ships that have many reactors and small ships with multiple or larger reactors for their size.
3. (v1.0.1) Doubled engine power consumption - makes the number of engines and their distance from a power source more imperative in ship design. Also makes engines less overpowered (I believe speed/maneuverability is both a very powerful weapon and just as powerful defense, so there should be tradeoffs for higher speed/acceleration).
4. (v1.0.2) Removed most missile-based space-drag on H.E. Missiles, EMP Missiles and Nuke Missiles. Mines are unchanged, however, as they fundamentally require space-drag to activate and operate as intended.
