how to mod?

i wanted to start off with something simple; crew types but reading the wiki has left me completely stumped. i was wondering if someone might be able to teach me how to make a simple engineering mod.

i had fun with crew skins too. It's quite rewarding to see own crews running around.
Feel free to dissect Susuwatari mod for your own purposes.

Interesting idea! Although crews cannot directly repair ship parts as of Cosmoteer 0.15.x, there might just be a way around.

If you survived initial learning curve modding Cosmoteer, in theory, following alternatives might be possible:
-A small engineer workshop (ship part) that repairs nearby ship parts
-A new ammo type (eg toolbox) that power part component(s) which in turn heals a ship part somehow.
-Additional PartCrew component that toggles part component(s) which in turn heals a ship part, etc

More importantly, have fun!
P/S: Luck is not a factor.

unluckywizzard Unfortunately this isn't really possible with the current modding technology we have right now. You can go to C:\Program Files\Cosmoteer\Standard Mods\example_mod\mod.txt for Walt's crash course on modding, and if you want/need additional help, feel free to ask questions either here on the forum, or on the Discord (where most of the community's action happens). If you don't already have a good text editor, most of the community strongly reccomends notepad++

unluckywizzard Healing parts using negative damage is certainly possible, though it won't do things like return destroyed parts. The problem in your idea is that it's basically impossible to get multiple crew 'types' right now, let alone have different behaviors for each one. Lafiel made a prototype for crew themselves repairing parts, but it ran into a multitude of crashes when they tried to repair parts they couldn't get to.

Yeah, crew based repair / supply will crash with parts like armor and also conflict with asteroid and ship generators.
You can use shots and area effects.

That has been in Abh for ages (nanite_damage_control2) but the new storage sharing feature is ideal for it. No more resource wastefulness and no need for complex communications.
