Oneye the correct information in an easy-to-understand way
The problem is there is no such thing as a "correct" amount because it entirely depends on the design of the ship. It is not feasible for the game to analyze a ship to determine the correct amount of crew for any particular design.
Hatter Assuming just having a tutorial on this is out of the question
It's not, but what would that tutorial say, that it doesn't already say?
Hatter Have the paths that shows up when a part is moused over turn from green to yellow to red as it has to go further and further, showing having stuff far away is bad.
My only issue with this is that the game already uses yellow to indicate when the closest factory or reactor is itself missing something it needs.
Hatter Have the bar look like this when it goes over, showing that excess is bad.
I think this makes the problem even worse, because it implies that the "suggested" line is a very specific value that needs to be strictly adhered to, rather than just a guideline. It also implies that going over the line will somehow make the ship generate less power, which is obviously incorrect.
SpaceCat I think it is enough to know how much power would be consumed by ship parts assuming the reactor is directly adjecent.
The suggested line is already an underestimate of how much power a ship would need if all systems were operating at maximum usage.
SpaceCat Estimating it by the ship layout would be super hard i guess
It's basically impossible. It would require running a full ship simulation for several minutes with varying amounts of crew and power to estimate how much of each it would need.
