Realistic Space Ship Designs

I like the earth ships in their simple design
It's sad that Netflix got rid of the show, I don't know where to find it now
RedAndCosmoteer Long cylanders cause you need to create gravity in a ship somehow and the only way we can do that is with artaficial gravity, all you would have to do is rotate it at a certian speed and there you go. and because thats the only wat yo create gravity and that seems to a thing people forget, we dont have the technologie to create gravity other then rotational, and i personally think we wont ever find a way other than that. second of all you still canput weapons on it however there will never be war in space as it is completely pointless, not because war is bad, but becase you can easily doge any shots and when you do fire something that shot will go on forever untill it hits something, plus you lose all chances of hiding, you can easily set up radar stations throughout your system and detect ships that sitting in the system next to us. If you would like to know more about stuff like this watch Issac Author on youtube

Jared In the expanse artificial gravity is created by the thrust of the 'Epstein drive'. The ships have floors arranged vertically so when the ship goes fast they have gravity. Ware-fare in the expanse is mostly of torpedoes, which track the target at high speeds, so you have to have point defence and stuff as you cannot dodge advanced and fast torpedoes easily. War happens when different factions disagree, which will definitely happen in the future, so i can imagine wars. As well as pirates! there will probably be some pirates if our would ends up like one in the expanse.
StarTrek Amazon prime has season one and two but you have to buy season 3

A: sure if you have a ship moving in a certian direction oull experiance some gravity however youd have to be moving to, with cylanders all you have to is rotate them and have consistent gravity even when not moving.
B: yea of course there will be wars however im talking about ship - ship combat, just because you can use weapons like misses dose not mean that it would be pratical, yea sure i can go out strap missles to my ship and hunt down cargo ships, however all they would need is pd with a wide spread, to shoot it down, meanwhile the other pd shots that missed ill continue on forever, witch can cause future issues. Plus lets say there was a area with high piracy, you can easily detect ships even if your light years away.
C: I doubt that there would be much piracy anyways and conflict really. First what reason would there be for pirates to exist, in a future where space travel is available for everyday citizens then theirs probably enough recesses that we would be in a post scarcity civilization (AKA no jobs and money is needed) however i doubt that people would have space ships like we have cars today, thats not saying that you cant have a ships license, we don't have every citizen with a plane sitting in their garage however there are a few people out there who do have a pilot license but don't fly planes as their day to day job. Most space travel would be done by companies like airport companies today, and if you did want a star ship pilot license you would need plenty of cash be trusted and be trained for a long time till you can be trusted to fly on your own. Even if we did reach a post- scarcity civilization there would be some sort of social system like in china today where your actions are watched and you will be denied certain privileges based on your actions
D: Now moving to the possibility of finding other life forms one thing i notice that people over see is desseses, when the Europeans ventured to the new word they brought a bunch of deadly desseses and of course we brought deses from the new world to Europe, now of course the chances of us getting desses from an alien planet would be low as i see we would have micro machines dealing with those for us, however i can imagine us killing off many plants on a alien world, to avoid that we would have already scanned that planet with self replicating drones that would also send out millions of micro drones to research the planets and check out the life there, or we can do the longer but possibly better option of transforming a planet to our needs or when we get all the information on that planet bioform the colonists. Now for finding Intelligent alien life equal to us or better, well we have no evadince of them existing out there as we see no sings of a K2 civilization, however lets say we do and we do go meet them they would probably be simmer to us as in they would probably also have the to keep them healthy, however if they were Xenophobic they they would easily just tell us to stay away, and chances of them wanting to purge us is low if you ask me as a civilization that wants death to all who are not them would have killed themselves off in their own wars on their planet.
A: While cylinders and rings work, because of friction and how fast you have to spin, it might be impractical and take up resources that can be used to power or fuel other parts of the ship. Also if you travelling very fast, unless the ring speeds up to compensate, the gravity may be disrupted. The thrust to get gravity is not an option for us mainly because we do not have engines strong enough to give us gravity. However they would be practical as no extra construction is needed for gravity and in space you will be travelling a lot. Rings are our best option longer duration missions, but i the future if we have superior engines we could use the thrust generated gravity.
B: I don't think it matters if space combat will be practical, it might happen or it might not depending on the technology we have. But i think battles will be like how the expanse portrays it. Torpedo barrages, railguns and such and then point defence. However pretty soon we are going to probably have lasers instead of the expanse's auto-guns.
C: I agree, it completely on how our civilisation developed and grows into space, including on how space-travel is accessed by the general population, piracy would would become a problem if space-travel becomes a commodity like cars. Earth is not going to come together anytime soon, so each nation is probably going to have independent forces, bases and colonies in the Sol system. But if earth unites there will be less conflict, but not none at all. If space-travel is restricted like piloting a plane and such, the future will include a lot less space-based conflicts.
D: I'm talking about near future space-designs, not what ships would actually look like in a interstellar federation and such. If we were to find alien life or get diseases and stuff, i don't really know. If we send a sort of generation ship to alpha centuri for example (With rings or a big cylinder of course), It would probably be passed by a superior ship sent decades or so later. About other civilisations, i also do not know, but we might not find another one due to some sort of great barrier such as nuclear war that kills off civilisation before they get to a interstellar stage. We might of passed this, or we might have not, which is scary. If we meet a friendly empire, that will be beneficial to both parties if we co-operate, but if we meet a xenophobic empire and they want to purge us wel,l oh dear.

I'm still a bit confused on your idea of having the ship itself move to create the artificial gravity, i understand having forces to push you to one end however that has its issues mainly when the ship is not moving, plus you would have to be moving really fast depending on the size, i can understand this with modern sized ships, however most space trail the ship isint using its thrusters rather its costing along, and the only way to maintain gravity using your idea is you would have to be consistently going faster and faster, however the faster you go the stronger the gravity will be, but with a cylinder you would only have a set rotational speed thanks to how rotational forces work. and you would only have cylinder ships instead of ring ones due to you having more space in cylinders
I am not trying to say that we should use this movement based thing, but i am saying future warships could could this instead of the moving parts and technicalities needed for a cylinder or ring ship. Civilian ships would use rings and such, as well as warships, but the thrust method requires a efficient and fast drive system like in the expanse. I think in the future for smaller and faster warships the thrust method could be used. Rings are cheaper in bigger sizes as ones can be created for less, and would have to be spun slower and can be used more efficiently for less imputed energy. However i never mentioned not used spinning structures for gravity, i was simply proposing a different idea for gravity, having thrust based gravity gives more creative freedom with ship design, as no bulky spinning structure is needed on the ship. However, a large cylindrical ship like the Nauvoo is probably one of the best ideas for a interstellar ship. However it takes a lifetime to construct and would be extremely expensive,However It would be worth the price. Unless it is launched at a evil alien asteroid and turned into a warship. About it being expensive to constantly accelerate, therefore draining fuel, But i am imagining a future where we are advanced enough to have a drive system equal to that of the epstein drive. It also depends on length of the journey. Ships to travel through a system could use thrust based gravity and interstellar or longer journeys would use rings or cylinders. The best option for modern day ships would just be a ring and stuff.

Well even for smaller ships Thruster based gravity" wont work, you can go from 0 - 60 in 6 seconds in a car and sure you will be pushed back into the seat however after a while that effect will lessen as everything within the car catches up with the cars speed, with your idea you would have to constantly have to speed up but soon you will reach a limit unless you were to constantly slow yourself down. TBH with smaller ships they will be gravity less exept with a crew area. Now with big ships you dont need moving parts to rotate it, all you would need to do is have small thrusters along it, spin it up to speed then your good, in the void of space you wont need to worrier about drag.
I am basing my views on what i basically want the future to be like, which is technology similar to the expanse, which i am basing my entire concept on. You seem to trying to debunk my idea on how warships will be designed. With technology like the expanse, ships would turn towards somewhere, accelerate and then flip around half-way there and start to decelerate. Because of the power and efficiency of the engines used in the expanse, that design is feasible, but with modern day technology it is not. About just having small thrusts, if you had a large cylindrical ship, you would still need some thrust to get it spinning,, with drag or not. Unless you have magical friction-less surfaces, you still to occasionally speed it up again to keep gravity. Spin gravity at the current time is our best but only option. I was mostly thinking about warships, and i see having spinning sections would be harder to manage in a battle.

Im not trying to debunk anything, im more so talking about your idea on a motive of artificial gravity, i already said that i doubt that space warfare will happen. As for frition when rotating a ship, im talking about rotating the entire ship, and even if you were only rotating certain parts repairs in space is possible and wouldn't be a big issue, we repair things in space all the time and would just get better with it in time. as for war ships, you can easily just use fast moving drones to do your bidding, they would work just like missiles and wouldn't require any crew exept for launching, but thats if your out of the orbit of a planet, either way like i said space warfare is pointless as you can easily stop a fleet before they get close. (also reply to my posts so i can get a notification lol)

also its not hard to doge a ship trying to joust with you, all you have to do is rotate yourself away from the on comming ship and get moving, space battles would be in large distances, plus if your really annoyed with a ship constanylt getting into ramming distance jut fire a net of dust at a high rate of speed and go on with your day
Jared On a ship, if you spin the whole thing all equipment would be constantly spinning, including weapons, unless you had very advanced fire control systems, I doubt it will b easy to aim point defence and such while spinning. Unless you had an extremely massive and dense field of dust, it would probably disipate and spread out. Unless it Is shot at unbelievable speed, it would be dodged if a ship is agile enough. Yes it could be used at close range at such, but if jousting a the high speeds the dust could travel too slow to hit. Anyway, how do you fire this dust? I guess you could use some sort of big scattergun, but it would have to be big to fire a big cloud, which would be extremely hard. Jousting would probably still be massive distances apart, getting into ramming distance would be literally impossible. Laser weapons could probably ware down the clouds enough to make them less harmful if they are on a unavoidable collision course.
What about other ship designs, such as Spheres?
And what about the short cylinders?
RedAndCosmoteer spheres have less room and dosent really matter the size of the cylinder
Jared So we should just say Cylinder then.
And, what about ships from Children of a Dead Earth?
(if you even have that game)
I have one
its called twin hooks
MrDerpaDerpy No offence but i do not thing that is necessarily that realistic
why
