Realistic Space Ship Designs

Note: This may or may not be correct but this is what I interpret as ship designs that would be in real-life.

This is a Fighter Craft. It has 4 L.A.S.E.R Turrets with an 8 Man Crew.

This is a Corvette, armed with multiple L.A.S.E.R Turrets

This is a Frigate, Armed with alot of L.A.S.E.R Turrets. Has a Circular Center.

Why I think that these would be realistic is because in space there is no "Up or Down" and many ships would be circular in shape and covered in many weapons.

Xenolurker But wouldn't you think of where the engines would go to? You may put pretty small engines but it would be extremely slow which is not a good combat option.

Xenolurker a realistic ship would have multiple engines of. Medium size with a few rail guns or maybe even a single high power laser for anti drone purpose so which brings me to how it would be much more effective use drone shot instead of manned ships

I think cannons would be more realistic than energy weapons. Things like railguns, cannons and on some more advanced ships, missiles would be good. My opinion only

so first of all the ships would have one engine and would be about 80% fuel, it would have gyroscopes for turning and having more than 2 crew would be ridiculous, you only need one to pilot and one to fire the weapons which would mainly automatic because you don't want to have to store a ton of food. Armor would be pointless a single rail gun can go through several feet of steel with ease, and everything would just use railguns and nukes (both very effective in space) and lasers are litteraly pointless if you enemy just has reflective foil like most spacecrafts today have to protect from radiation.

now if this is far in the future we would also use plasma based weapons.

Realistic ships would be mostly robots, war in space is completely pointless cause you would have to be jousting to actually hit your target

After having played Children of a Dead Earth prior to making this forever dead post, it seems that having a large thrusting segment and the ship is designed in a cylindrical pattern with gun turrets on the sides seems to work.

Xenolurker Can't seem to get past that mission "On the Surface of Giants".

Now i'm wondering how the USTA is able to get fuel from that thing, how are their transports able to maneuver to dock with that station?

RedAndCosmoteer Not going to lie, I haven't played the campaign in ages. Whats the mission like? I might not be of too much help but I can maybe provide some pointers.

And for docking, there's probably an actual series of docking ports. Idk if the ships have them, but some engines on the sides could help spin the ship around like Kerbal RCS ports. But then again, in game you can't really maneuver a ship in combat other than "point and click" in a direction you wanna accelerate to.

Xenolurker Well, the Methane collector that the USTA uses is in low orbit around Neptune.

As in, REALLY low orbit. You can't plot an intercept without colliding with Neptune 10 seconds later, and it's like that at every point in it's orbit.

Now i'm wondering why the USTA can't put it in elliptical orbit
