Hey everyone! I'm considering making a bunch of significant balance changes to Cosmoteer. Some of these changes I might make to "Cosmoteer Classic" (the free version), and some I might only put in the paid version. Since these changes are rather dramatic, I'd like to get your feedback on them before I make any final decisions.
To test these changes, I've made not one, not TWO, not THREE, but FOUR FIVE separate mods that you can install to try out these balance changes. I welcome your feedback, and please keep in mind that these changes are very experimental; I have made no decisions yet!
Here are the mods:
Weapon Range Rebalance Prototype
The purpose of this mod is to try out increasing the range of all weapons by 50% so that ships (especially large ships) don't have to fight so awkwardly close to each other.
- Increases range of all weapons (except for PD and Flak) by 50%.
- Increases the projectile speed of cannons, lasers, and electro-bolts by 50%.
- Reduces the shot health of cannons, lasers, and electro-bolts by 1/3.
Ammo/Power Rebalance Prototype (V2)
The purpose of this mod is to rebalance ammo and power production and storage to favor more centralized ship designs.
- Increases the price of small/med/large reactors from 15000/30000/60000 to 25000/50000/75000.
- Doubles the price of all ammo, missile, and mine factories.
Reduces the production rate of all ammo, missile, and mine factories by 75%.
- V2: Factories receive a +20% production speed buff for each adjacent factory of the same type.
- Double power storage capacity.
- Quadruples ammo, H.E. missile, and E.M.P. missile storage capacity.
- Nuke storage no longer explodes nuclear when destroyed. (It has a smaller, more conventional explosion.)
Corridor Rebalance Prototype
The purpose of this mod is to make corridors more necessary and useful.
- Reduces corridor cost from 100 to 75.
- Reduces corridor weight density from 1.0 to 0.6.
- Reduces congested crew speed in non-corridor parts from 30% to 15%.
- 2x1 bunk rooms can now only have 1 door. (Added two additional bunk variants that differ only in where that door can be located.)
- 2x2 quarters can now only have doors along one of the walls.
Momentum Rebalance Prototype
The purpose of this mod is to increase the maneuverability of ships and reduce the need for counter-thrust, making them move fly intuitively, albeit less realistically, with less unintentional ramming.
- Doubles the natural drag ("air resistance") of ships as they coast through space.
- Doubles the force exerted by all thrusters.
Ship Rotation Rebalance Prototype
The purpose of this mod is to make ships rotate more slowly, making flanking tactics easier and making rotating a ship a more significant decision.
- Doubles the "rotational inertia" of ships, making them turn more slowly.
