And dehm, as Nordwolf said, there are not many factions that passed, but those that have are quite good, so voting will be difficult!

The main problem is everything that shows up here just looks too good to be excluded. I'll delay my vote.
I OFFICIALLY QUITE COMPETITIVE COSMOTEER.
I'm not even qualifying for design contests, and I can't make heads or tails of the multiplayer meta anymore. Very depressing, I'm just going to sit in my Roleplay corner and sulk.
RandomCommander I never even did competitive, I am too shit at the game to do that.
Man, I'm so bummed that mine didn't make it, considering the effort I put into those solid five hours that I spent working on my entry. Even so, it WAS said that Walt was very harsh with this selection, so... rip, I guess.
In any case, four of these entries I actually gave a Like on the submissions thread, so the hardest part was figuring out which one to drop out of the vote. That being said, best of luck to The Pylons, T.C.C., and U.T.D., as my votes to the competition.
I_Am_Jarvis I spent like 2 days straight just planning the smaller ships. And then around 4-8 hours per ship
I'm fine with his veto. He's put a chunk of his life into a product that is trying to go from personal to profitable.
If we're going to continue having this kind of contest going forward, and I hope we do, even a bit of generic feedback would seem helpful for both sides. What were his top 3 reasons for vetoing ships this round? It would get him better results for fewer hard feelings.
If I were to guess after seeing both threads, I'd say he's valuing staying on brand more than novelty. He probably already had some opinion about what there was too little/much of. He knows what's coming for the game, and might have future plans to take into account. Good ships, but a pretty harsh cull for community voting.

Seems a bit odd that not more of the factions approved by Walt are being put to the voting stage.
Is there a reason for including so few?
In the previous design contests there were far more options in the voting stage (many of the previous contest seem to have 12 options while here we have 6).
I didn't even have a time to make more competitive ships from my Neo-Z faction. Let's go back to roleplay and kick some ass!

About 1/3 of the fleets submitted were clearly of lesser quality and creativity than the others. 1/3 is actually lower than it usually is; usually about 1/2 of ships are "easy vetoes". After cutting those fleets, that left an impressive 20+ fleets of good-to-great quality, which I felt was too much to move on to moderator voting, so I decided to get more picky and cut a handful more...
The ships in the faction didn't have a strong enough unifying theme. If you see those ships individually, you should be able to tell pretty clearly that they belong to the same faction.

The faction's ships "broke the 4th wall" in the sense that they were clearly designed to resemble something from the real world (like an animal or bug). Cool for sure, but it makes Cosmoteer's universe feel less consistent and real. (I realize many of the old BH ships are guilty of this, but I'm trying to make Cosmoteer's universe more fully-realized as we get closer to release.)
Paint quality not quite up to par.

dieaready Just wondering, did you take into account the lore writeup as well or did you just ignore it? And would the written lore be included into the game as well?
I decided not to since it wasn't required and some players didn't have a write-up. (Also I wouldn't veto a faction just because I didn't like the lore.) I will consider adding the lore to the ship descriptions depending on how appropriate I think it is for the game.
