Please note: This is a IDEA, not a Tactic (srry if it sounds like im saying your dumb, im not)
Everyone at this point (At least I think so) is confused how to deal with mines. Defensive? You an fly around it. Offensive? Flak and pd brush it away.To fix this issue, I must bring up the problems with this idea.
Would be expensive (and need lots of time and room)
Powerful enough engines and/or shields would counter it.
You will enter Lag City
Ok. The idea is mixing Mines and tractor beams to force the enemy to tank lots of mini bombs of doom. You would first lay down a massive line of mines, both horizontally and vertically. Afterwards, let the enemy rush towards you. Once done, get a few tractor beams (pull) and force them into the mines. If enough mines are laid down, the enemies' shields, weaponry, armor, ect would be destroyed. This would work in some matches exponentally if: The enemy is a slow, heavy, craft. The enemy has extreme foward movement but less reverse, or the enemy focuses more on offense then defense.
It also works with how player's use their ships. If they rush headlong into battle, focus on destroying destractions then the main target, and think their ship can tank when it can't.
The design
The ship would most likely need high amounts of tractor beams. The more there are, the faster the enemy will ram into the mines. You would need at least 3-5 on the side you will be using. 1 on top-1 on middle- 1 on bottom (If five, put the last two in between top, middle, and bottom.) It would be best to make this as a detachable module, since when the enemy goes through the mines, it would be best to have additonal weaponry without the hassles of the mines. Now I hear you saying "But to make this 'idea' happen, you would just need to be close enough to the target", which is true. The difference is, the idea is more of a offense and defense, while C.U.B. (Close Up Broadsiding) is more easy to counter, is more of a support style, and has trouble filling the gap the nuke and other missiles fill in.
