To your first point, Mr. Lafiel, I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not immediately sure how that would be achieved, though as you say, mod dependency support would be a great step in the right direction.
To the second, at this point, crafting is more of an experiment and proof-of-concept than anything else, but the point is, for all its simplicity and lack of interesting depth, it can be done, and hopefully some support for further possibilities will be enabled by future changes to the base game.
