So, as I told on Prontomanagement's post (https://forum.cosmoteer.net/d/9356-what-project-are-you-working-on) I made a simple game to play on a calculator. I named it "Runner" because I couldn't think of anything else. Feel free to do suggestions!
RUNNER
How it works:
The goal is simple: You play as the letter T (Decided by asking fellow students which letter they saw most fit). You want to consume as many of the letter X, which give one point each. You can move towards them horizontally and vertically using the arrow keys.
Easy enough, were it not the letter R is always hunting you. This (not so advanced) AI will chase after you, taking the shortest route to you, even diagonally. You cannot hide forever, and R will catch you if you don't use your greatest trick. By going off the map, you reappear at the other side. R cannot follow you and must run all the way back towards you.
At first I wanted the enemy to move even if you were standing still. This turned out to be too much work for the simple project I was aiming for. It was too difficult to slow R down, he moved at 1 square/tick , making it impossible to score more than 2 points. So I decided to go turn based.
This is what I call a turn:
Press key --> R Moves --> T Moves --> End of Turn
As you can see the enemy moves just before you, otherwise you could only be catched by running into the R. (Sounds too easy, right?)
This solution results in that you will always get caught. Even if you're "only" standing next to R, collision will follow the next turn, no matter what you do. In that scenario you will get a "game over". Pressing Enter upon game over will return you to the game's title screen.
For those interested to see how much code the game has: Not very much. I can fill about one A4 paper if I put the code in three columns:
Anyways: Here is a download: Runner
To install: Download the Zip-file and extract it. You will see a RUNNER2.8xp file and a README.txt.
The README is just my disclaimer (I added it because I still need the game for school. I don't want anyone accusing me for plagiarism because someone posted it somewhere else. If they find a download here I can still prove this is my account and thus my file.)
Connect your TI-84 Plus calculator (I haven't tested it on other calculators) to your pc using a cable and a program called TI Connect (Free to download on the website of Texas Instruments).
Add the .8xp file to your calculator's programs. Once the upload has been completed, just press PRGM on your calculator and execute the program called RUNNER2.
To leave the program, you must forcefully leave it pressing the off button, then pressing quit. (The game text will still be on screen, but can be swiped by pressing clear.)
If you have any questions about the game or code, ask me. If you think you've found a bug (I think I eradicated all of them) please tell me what happened, so I can check if it was intentional or not.
