Walt I have no strong opinions on what the starting amount should be, but I do just want to make sure that small ships stay useful. With a small starting cap you are forced to have small ships at the beginning of the game, at least.
I think that no matter what small ships will be useful. Aside from being valuable for capturing/contesting points, small ships let you make better use of your income. I expect it'll be a better use of money to buy a $250k now, rather than hoping you can survive long enough to get out a $1mil.
Walt The reason I did that was because otherwise they get really huge when you zoom in, which looks a bit weird & fuzzy and leaves the actual edge of the CP not well defined.
Would it work to keep the width of each ring the same, but vary the distance between them as you zoom in and out?

Regarding small ships contesting/capturing, what would everyone think about:
Contesting a defended enemy-held point does not undo their capture, and will only block income as long as you continue to contest.
To capture an enemy point, you first have to clear out any defenders and undo their capture (at which point it becomes neutral), then capture it yourself.
Smaller radius of capture points, particularly the large one in the middle. Maybe the large one should have double the area instead of double the radius?
The idea is to make capturing a point more rewarding, while making it harder to contest a well-defended point. Right now ships can dart in, wipe out any capture progress, then run away without fighting at all. I also think this is more intuitive and consistent with capture points in other games.
It might also be a good idea to require 100% capture progress on all points before a player can win. Right now a player can win even if they're in the process of losing a point.
