Tada! Glad to finally get this out (Though I am a little sad, because it lost a little bit of effectiveness in the transfer from 0.14.6 to 0.14.7)
Works at least with 0.14.7 through 0.14.15
Cosmofine is a modification solely designed to improve the performance of Cosmoteer on lower-end computers. Like Optifine itself, it may help an unbelievable amount, or it might not help a lot, but it will improve performance either way.
What it does:
Cosmofine has two different methods of improving the game. The first is to simply lower the amount of unnecessary stuff going on by lowering the object count of backgrounds, and removing planets entirely. This increases FPS around 50% (usually), and makes loading a game/a sector almost instantaneous. Secondly, it does a bit of behind-the-scenes wizardry to make the physics calculations themselves much faster. Please note that as an inevitable side effect, railguns and some modded parts don't quite function properly.
Misc info:
This modification is compatible with Cosmoteer versions 0.14.7, 0.14.8, and probably 0.14.9, and should be trivial to update when necessary
Cosmofine unfortunately does make your multiplayer game incompatible, not much I can do about that
Crew look very spazzy, but act nearly the exact same way, so don't worry
Cosmofine increases FPS much more on lower end PCs, but improves physics calculations on both low and high end builds a huge amount
The mod folder starts with [, which means it almost always loads last for convenience
You can use the developer mode bar to find an "Empty" background type that can act both as a greenscreen, and increase FPS drastically, especially with weaker graphics cards

Enjoy! http://www.mediafire.com/file/bqwvc2zcz41a8ua/%255BCosmofine%255D.zip/file

Also, if you download the mod, please take a few seconds to submit how much Cosmofine improved your performance, so I can get a better idea of what I might need to change in the future

is there a way to just remove the background but keep the other things? I really dont want to make my railguns stop working.

leosefcik Railguns don't stop working, they just have around 20% range reduction (Which confuses the heck out of me, it should be 74%). If you want to fix railguns entirely, you can go to the mod.txt, and comment out/remove lines 18-27. Note that this almost completely disables the physics engine side of Cosmofine

soooooo, wheres the download for 14.6?

classic-capitan not all mods work in older versions, you should update to 0.14.8

classic-capitan There is currently no download link for 0.14.6. I do have an old copy of a version for 0.14.6, and I will go grab it if I remember, but I won't be supporting any version other than the current one in the future

CaptainRedstone if you could add some kind of battle render mode (maybe the last speed setting) that would be epic (allows you to fight extremely large ships by only taking physics calculations a few times a second but also slows the simulation speed greatly) I've kinda tried but never was able to figure out how to do it without just editing the game files.

thatPolarBear Really I have pushed the physics engine about as far as it can go without really starting to break stuff. Lowering it much further would cause serious issues with most parts. Also, I don't want to run into compatibility issues with speedset or anything. Thanks for the suggestion though!

          Claw262 What about it?

CaptainRedstone How does cosmofine work? I don't understand how you could cause any significant performance boosts without changing the game's code.

jbox1 Take a look! I have done extensive datamining in vanilla and found a bunch of really interesting stuff to mess around with, which helped create this mod

                25 days later

This caused me game to lag more... wth

Oddie23110 ...What? That shouldn't be possible. The mod only removes/reduces stuff... What exactly is lagging more?

CaptainRedstone Wanna bet he's merely confused about the crew movement?
                    That occasionally gets me too....

CursedPh4nt0m That is what I am thinking. The crew being so flashy is sad, but it makes crew calculations somewhere between... (pulls out data files) 2-5 times faster

                        a year later

does this work for modern cosmoteer? I've been trying abh bounty mode, but the explosions are Just too big, my poor laptop can't handle it

                        ONI well... errr...

                        ... it's my divine right?

False_God No it's not. It breaks forum rules lol

IVIemories changed the title to [Abandoned] Cosmofine - Optifine for Cosmoteer.
