As a follow up to my best ww2 fighter thread i present to you, Best ww2 attacker thread. I don't know a much about some aircraft in this field as fighters but i'm quite sure what nomber one.
I'll be looking at, Firepower, the power to defend itself against fighters, speed and whatever.
1. Junkers Ju 87 stuka:
The only modern attacker of it's time, the stukas opponents would be old obsolete biplanes. It doesn't need all those traits if no other attacker then had it. It's dive bombing capabilities where boosted with is siren which would strike fear into enemy ground units.
- Republic P-47d thunderbolt:
What can i say? like half of is it's payload. It's 8 50cals is excellent for killing troops or heavily armed cars but not good for penetrating armor. For it's fighter capabilities it need altitude which is hard when your attacking ground targets. So it's defencive capabilities could be better but yea. It's not easy when you weigh as much as the continent it took of from.
- Hawker typhoon mk Ib:
It was intended to be a fighter thus it's capability to destroy other fighters, but it's heavy weight and firepower made it more popular as a strike fighter. It's rockets are tank killers and it has four 20mm hispanos. It's good visibility combined with the speed of light and maneuverability makes it an excellent fighter attacker hybrid. But for a ground attack aircraft it's payload is rather small compared to other attackers.
The other good attackers i don't know where to place:
Mosquito
P-38 lighting
Il-2 sturmovik
F4u corsair
