Kinectic weaponry can be stopped by either dissipating it with a laser or by reactive shields that emply energy to create a gigantic magnetic field around the conductive material, deflecting the projectile, it's a new technology in tank armoring, look it up, pretty cool, a big burst of energy for magnitization.
Also, imagine how absurdly long the travellings would be? "I want to RP with that faction" then you just send them a messagen and get the back-forth of like, 10k years XD
